Detroit Lions at Carolina Panthers (Week 4)

We have two NFC playoff hopefuls wrapping up the first month of the regular season. The Panthers are coming off an NFC South-winning season in 2025, and they’ll be looking to carry that momentum into this season as they continue to build around Bryce Young. Meanwhile, the Lions will be looking to get the train back on the tracks after being on the outside looking in on the postseason a year ago. It’s not the flashiest of matchups (which is why we have it ranked the lowest of the bunch), but there will be star power at the skill positions with Jahmyr Gibbs, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and Tetairoa McMillan on the field.

Football 16. Baltimore Ravens at Atlanta Falcons (Week 5)

Whenever you get Lamar Jackson under the “Sunday Night Football” lights, it’s going to draw eyeballs. The questions, however, come from the home team in this matchup with the Atlanta Falcons. How their quarterback battle shakes out between Tua Tagovailoa and Michael Penix Jr. will determine whether or not this game remains at the bottom tier of games in this primetime window or vaults higher. If Tagovailoa or Penix takes the job and runs with it, the Falcons suddenly have a quarterback who can maximize the loaded talent they have at the skill positions. That turns this matchup into a potential track meet. If it’s a middling battle this summer and a QB wins by default, it could be a Baltimore blowout.

Outside of what happens under center for Atlanta, this game does feature Kevin Stefanski (former head coach of the Browns) squaring off against a Baltimore team that he’s familiar with after coaching in the AFC North, along with a top-tier running back bout between Derrick Henry and Bijan Robinson.

Football 15. Houston Texans at Pittsburgh Steelers (Week 13)

This is a playoff rematch from Wild Card Weekend, but that game was hardly entertaining. Back in January, the Texans demolished the Steelers to the tune of a 30-6 win in Pittsburgh. Houston dropped 23 points in the fourth quarter to advance to the divisional round. On paper, this should be a late-season matchup between two playoff hopefuls in the AFC. However, we currently don’t know if Aaron Rodgers will even be Pittsburgh’s quarterback as he’s still unsigned. If he doesn’t sign, we’re looking at Mason Rudolph, Will Howard, or rookie Drew Allar as the Steelers options. Neither screams primetime. Meanwhile, C.J. Stroud struggled mightily during the playoffs last season, and if those issues rear their head in 2026, Houston’s season could be upside down by then. Again, there’s a world where this is a legit playoff preview by the time we get to early December, but there are still a few things in the air to truly get excited for it.

Football 14. Pittsburgh Steelers at Cincinnati Bengals (Week 10)

Similar to what we were discussing above, this game is a must-see matchup on paper. After all, the Steelers are the defending AFC North champions, and the Bengals are looking to thrust themselves back atop the division and into the Super Bowl conversation after getting healthy and adding to the defense this offseason. This could be a divisional head-to-head that determines who’ll ultimately come out on top of the AFC North. The elephant in the room, however, is Rodgers. If he decides to retire or opts to sign elsewhere, this game loses its shine.

Football 13. Indianapolis Colts at Kansas City Chiefs (Week 2)

The schedule makers are putting a lot of faith into modern medicine by slotting this game so early in the season. While the updates from both Daniel Jones and Patrick Mahomes have been good this offseason, both quarterbacks are coming off serious injuries in 2025. Jones is rehabbing a torn Achilles tendon he suffered in early December, while Mahomes tore his ACL in Week 15. It’s not a slam dunk that either of these quarterbacks will be ready at the start of the season, so there is the risk of backups suiting up. That creates a lot of variance in how much intrigue there will be for this Week 2 head-to-head. That said, if Mahomes (along with Jones) can start from the jump, everyone will want to see how he looks.

Football 12. Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Chicago Bears (Week 9)

The Chicago Bears were one of the surprise teams of 2025 as they hit the ground running with head coach Ben Johnson and won the NFC North. If they can keep that upward trajectory going as Caleb Williams enters Year 3, they’ll be a serious threat in the NFC. Meanwhile, the Bucs endured a down year last season and saw their four-season streak of NFC South champs snapped. Even acknowledging that they saw Mike Evans depart in free agency, Tampa Bay did retool, particularly on defense, and should be back in contention. When we arrive at this game, it wouldn’t be shocking to see both of these teams atop their respective divisions, making this matchup an intriguing game from a possible seeding perspective.

Football 11. Detroit Lions at Minnesota Vikings (Week 15)

It wasn’t that long ago that these two teams were going toe to toe in Week 18 with the NFC North title and the No. 1 seed on the line. While things have changed since that 2024 campaign, both of these teams could conceivably return to that form in 2026. The Vikings continue to have one of the better rosters in the league, but the big question centers around the quarterback position. If Kyler Murray wins the job and is the latest veteran QB to enjoy a career resurgence, Minnesota will be a factor in the NFC playoff picture. Meanwhile, the Lions are also simply too talented across the depth chart to be ignored. Given that this game is in Week 15, it could very well help determine the winner of the NFC North or have serious ramifications for the NFC wild card race.

Football 10. Jacksonville Jaguars at Dallas Cowboys (Week 16)

Let’s not forget that the Jaguars were 13-4 during Liam Coen’s first season as head coach in 2025. There’s no reason to think that Jacksonville won’t continue to be a threat to not only win the AFC South again this season, but also pile up a big win total. As for the Cowboys, they are another team that shouldn’t be slept on in 2026. Their offense was already playoff caliber, and they’ve spent the offseason trying to bring the talent on defense up to a more respectable level. Both should be playing for playoff positioning at this juncture, and each has offenses capable of some late-season fireworks.

Football 9. Los Angeles Rams at Denver Broncos (Week 3)

The only knock on this game is that it’s so early in the season. There may not be as much juice in Week 3 as there could be later in the year, but this is legitimately a potential Super Bowl preview. Had it not been for Bo Nix suffering a season-ending ankle injury in the final moments of the divisional round, Denver conceivably could’ve reached the Super Bowl a season ago. Meanwhile, the Rams were arguably the second-best team in the NFC in 2025, only looking up to the eventual Super Bowl champion Seahawks. Matthew Stafford is coming off an MVP season and will now try to put a dent in one of the top defenses in the league in the Broncos.

Football 8. New England Patriots at Los Angeles Chargers (Week 12)

The Patriots got the better of the Chargers over Wild Card Weekend last season, earning a 16-3 win in Foxborough. While this is a playoff rematch, it could be a different type of matchup entirely. The Chargers’ offense couldn’t get off the ground because of poor protection for Justin Herbert, who was sacked six times. With tackles Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt — both of whom missed that game — expected to be back healthy for next season, Herbert should be better protected, resulting in a more high-flying game between two of the better quarterbacks in the AFC. New England is coming off a Super Bowl berth in 2025, along with Maye jumping into the MVP conversation, so this is quite the quarterback duel we have on our hands, along with the possibility of this game impacting the AFC playoff picture.

Football 7. Kansas City Chiefs at Seattle Seahawks (Week 7)

There isn’t the same level of concern for Patrick Mahomes’ availability for this game compared to the Week 2 matchup. By this juncture, No. 15 should almost certainly be back under center. If Mahomes is even remotely back to his former self, you can’t rule this out as a sleeper Super Bowl preview either. Speaking of the Super Bowl, the Super Bowl LX MVP, Kenneth Walker III, will be facing his former Seahawks team for the first time in this game after signing with Kansas City in free agency. That subplot adds another layer to what should be a wildly entertaining contest in the Pacific Northwest.

Football 6. Minnesota Vikings at San Francisco 49ers (Week 11)

This game may be a little higher than people expect, but it’s going to have a much different feel than any other “Sunday Night Football” matchup we get this season. Why? Because this game will be played in Mexico City, adding an international flair to the primetime window.

On top of this game being played outside of the United States, it also has the potential to be a critical matchup for the NFC playoff picture. As we noted before, the Vikings are a stable quarterback away from truly getting back into the playoff conversation. If they find that with Kyler Murray, they’ll play a role in how the playoffs shape up in the conference. Meanwhile, the 49ers are also one of the most talented teams in the entire league, and were simply snakebitten by injuries last season. If they can stay out of the blue medical tent, they have the ability to be the No. 1 seed in the NFC.

Football 5. Dallas Cowboys at New York Giants (Week 1)

Right out of the gate, we get a doozy of a matchup on Sunday night. On the Cowboys’ side of things, we get a look at Brian Schottenheimer’s revamped defense for the first time, and if they show promise, the hype train surrounding Dallas’ Super Bowl hopes will only increase. Meanwhile, we get the head coaching debut of John Harbaugh with the New York Giants. The former Ravens head coach is looking to mold a roster headlined by second-year quarterback Jaxson Dart into a playoff contender, and would start his tenure off on a strong note with a win in Week 1 against a division rival. We’ll also get our first look at a couple of former Ohio State Buckeyes turned first-round picks in linebacker Arvell Reese (Giants) and safety Caleb Downs (Cowboys)

Football 4. Dallas Cowboys at Green Bay Packers (Week 6)

Any time it’s the Cowboys vs. Micah Parsons, it’ll be must-see TV from here on out. While there are questions surrounding the star pass rusher’s availability to start the season after tearing his ACL in Week 15, the Packers will hold out hope they’ll have him for this matchup. Of course, having Parsons on the field adds another level of intrigue after his stunning blockbuster trade out of Dallas last season, but this is a monster matchup regardless of whether he’s out there or not.

Both Dallas and Green Bay should be in the thick of the playoff conversation in the NFC next season, and this early-season matchup could set the stage for how the rest of the season could unfold for them.

Remember, these teams had one of the more memorable games of the 2025 season, posting 40 points each in a Week 4 tie.

Football 3. Buffalo Bills at Green Bay Packers (Week 14)

There’s just something about Lambeau Field in mid-December that screams perfection. On top of the possibility of a snow game, we have two of the heavy-hitters in the NFL for this Week 14 contest in the Bills and Packers. Josh Allen vs. Jordan Love is a tasty quarterback matchup, and we should assume that Micah Parsons will be back by this point, so Green Bay should be firing on all cylinders defensively. It wouldn’t surprise me if we’re talking about this game as a potential Super Bowl preview leading into kickoff, considering the ceiling both of these franchises have entering 2026.

Football 2. Philadelphia Eagles at Washington Commanders (Week 8)

It wasn’t that long ago that the Eagles and Commanders were going head to head in the NFC Championship. The 2025 season went sideways for both of these NFC East clubs, more so for Washington, with Jayden Daniels dealing with injuries. So long as both teams stay healthy, they’ll be duking it out for supremacy in the NFC East all season, to the delight of us watching at home. This game slots in at a fascinating juncture in my eyes. We’ll be wrapping up the second month of the regular season, and as the calendar flips to November, it’s about the time when teams start to separate. That gives this game the potential to send the winner on a playoff trajectory, while the other could be struggling to stay afloat after dropping a critical head-to-head.

Football 1. Philadelphia Eagles at San Francisco 49ers (Week 17)

The schedule makers were wise to put this game in Week 17, as it has the potential to be a contest that determines the No. 1 seed in the NFC. These teams are also no strangers to one another after the 49ers ousted Philly from the playoffs in the wild card round last year.

San Francisco currently has the third-best odds to win the conference, while the Eagles own the fifth-best odds. The Niners have the talent to win the Super Bowl this season, but they simply need to stay healthy. If they can do that, they’ll be a thorn in the entire league’s side, including the Eagles. As for Philadelphia, they were still able to go 11-6 last season despite folks considering it a down year for the organization.
