As the dual-threat pioneer who put Virginia Tech football on the national map in the late \u201990s, Michael Vick\u2019s legacy in Blacksburg is foundational. However, as a new era begins under the leadership of head coach James Franklin, Vick isn\u2019t just a statue or a memory. He is actively becoming a bridge.<\/p>\n
Franklin has recognized early on that he couldn\u2019t build a future without honoring the pillars of the Virginia Tech past. Reaching out to Vick wasn\u2019t just a PR move. It was a strategic integration of the program\u2019s greatest icon.<\/p>\n
Vick discussed his involvement in the latest episode of the \u201cSet in Stone\u201d video series by Virginia Tech. \u201cI think it\u2019s important,\u201d Vick stated<\/a> when discussing his involvement. \u201cI think first of all, you know, a coach like Coach Franklin and the entire staff who has a ton of experience can help us see, you know, how we can kind of navigate the college football ranks, where we\u2019re at, and how we can get better.\u201d<\/p>\n Vick\u2019s perspective highlights a sophisticated understanding of the modern game. He recognizes that for Virginia Tech to climb back to the top of the ACC, the alumni must be in lockstep with the coaching staff\u2019s vision.<\/p>\n The core of Vick\u2019s return to the fold isn\u2019t centered on X\u2019s and O\u2019s or recruiting rankings. It is rooted in the \u201cUt Prosim\u201d (That I May Serve) spirit of Virginia Tech. To Vick, the invitation from Franklin was more than a request; it was a homecoming.<\/p>\n \u201cOn the flip side, however we can be of service to the Virginia Tech coaching staff, I think it goes hand in hand,\u201d Vick explained. \u201cOnce you come through these doors and you become ingratiated in this program, you know, it\u2019s always going to be family.\u201d<\/p>\n The college football landscape in 2026 is vastly different from the one Vick dominated in 1999. With the transfer portal and the complexities of the expanded playoffs, the pressure on student-athletes is at an all-time high. Vick believes that his presence can help current players navigate these high-stakes waters.<\/p>\n For Vick, the decision to answer Franklin\u2019s call was an easy one.<\/p>\n He added, \u201cIt\u2019s great to have a coach like Coach Franklin who reached out to us, asked us to come be a part of what\u2019s being created, what\u2019s being built. I just thought it was something that we had to do. And I\u2019m thankful for the relationship that I have with them.\u201d<\/p>\n As Virginia Tech enters this new era, the \u201cVick Effect\u201d is already palpable. Recruiting has seen a localized surge, and there is a renewed sense of pride within the locker room.<\/p>\n Franklin is set to benefit from the current state of the ACC. Dabo Swinney\u2019s Clemson has fallen from grace. Mike Norvell\u2019s Florida State doesn\u2019t appear threatening.<\/p>\n The only team in the ACC that looks to win out is Mario Cristobal\u2019s Miami Hurricanes. If the Hokies can navigate the initial schedule and get on a run, they stand a good chance to even make the conference championship, which currently stands at 1.2% per PFSN\u2019s CFB Playoff Meter.<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
