Megan Rapinoe and Sue Bird \u2014 two legendary sports stars who were in a relationship for nearly 10 years \u2014 announced their separation Friday in a statement on social media.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis hasn\u2019t been an easy decision, but it\u2019s one we\u2019ve made together, with so much love, respect, and care for each other,\u201d the Olympic gold medalists wrote in an Instagram post. \u201cWe\u2019ve shared a whole life over the last decade, through big moments and in quiet ones, and that is something we\u2019ll always carry with us.\u201d<\/p>\n

The pair also announced they will end their podcast, \u201cA Touch More,\u201d which relaunched in 2024<\/a> to focus on women\u2019s sports and its intersection with politics, equality and inclusion.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile this chapter of doing the podcast together is ending, what we\u2019ve built with you isn\u2019t,\u201d the statement read. In a video<\/a>, Rapinoe and Bird said they would separately host six episodes as a \u201cfarewell\u201d to fans.<\/p>\n

The retired duo began dating in 2016 and went public with their relationship the following year before getting engaged in 2020.<\/p>\n

Both athletes are considered icons in their respective sports and are fierce advocates for social issues, including equal pay<\/a>, transgender rights<\/a> and racial justice<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Rapinoe, 40, is a two-time World Cup champion and Olympic gold medalist with the U.S. women\u2019s national soccer team. Bird, 45, is a 13-time WNBA All-Star, four-time WNBA champion with the Seattle Storm and five-time Olympic gold medalist.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
