Former Super Eagles midfielder\u00a0John Mikel Obi has delivered a blunt assessment of Liam Rosenior after Chelsea\u2019s\u00a0defeat\u00a0at Brighton & Hove Albion on Tuesday,\u00a0<\/strong>Soccernet.ng<\/strong><\/u><\/strong><\/a>\u00a0reports.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The West London club parted ways with Enzo Maresca on New Year\u2019s Day and appointed Rosenior from sister club Strasbourg,\u00a0handing him a long-term contract as part of their model.<\/p>\n

Despite a promising start in the dugout at the two-time European champions, results have\u00a0taken a downward spiral\u00a0in recent weeks, with\u00a0pressure already mounting.<\/p>\n

Chelsea hit a new low on Wednesday night after a 3-0 defeat to Brighton at the American Express Stadium in the Premier League\u00a0and\u00a0equalled an unwanted 114-year record, as they have now lost five consecutive league games without scoring a goal.<\/p>\n

In fact, since Rosenior\u2019s appointment in January, the Blues have lost more league games (6) than they did under Maresca (5) in the earlier part of the campaign. They have also slipped to seventh in the standings, putting their hopes of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League next season in serious doubt.<\/p>\n

Former Chelsea star\u00a0Mikel Obi,\u00a0who has been critical of Rosenior since his arrival<\/u><\/a>, has once again questioned the Englishman\u2019s connection with the club\u00a0and also raised\u00a0concerns about his lack of authenticity.<\/p>\n

Speaking on his\u00a0Obi One Podcast<\/strong>, the former\u00a0Nigerian\u00a0midfielder openly\u00a0questioned\u00a0the Chelsea manager\u2019s character and approach\u00a0at the club.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe looks like he\u2019s faking everything, but that\u2019s what I said. From the very first minute I listened to him in a press conference, I said it, there is something about the guy that I do not like,\u201d\u00a0Mikel Obi said.<\/u><\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u201cTake away his coaching ability or anything, the only way somebody can be successful and get the right message across is for your players to believe your message, your philosophy, the way you want things to be done is by being authentic and by being who you are.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u201cBy sending the right message and not sugarcoating things and not trying to be overly intellectual. Just say it how it is. Be natural, relax, and be yourself. Speak normally, calmly, and express yourself in an authentic way, in the right manner. Don\u2019t try to be something you\u2019re not. It just doesn\u2019t work, and that\u2019s what I see,\u201d the 2013 AFCON winner added.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u201cWhen I say week in, week out there is something about him that doesn\u2019t connect with the football club, I still don\u2019t see that connection. It doesn\u2019t sit well with me and a lot of people. People don\u2019t see it working out.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Despite being only a few months into his five-and-a-half-year contract, Mikel Obi does not believe Rosenior has a long-term future at the club and expects his tenure to be\u00a0cut short very soon.<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t see that happening.\u00a0So\u00a0he needs to get back to being himself, stop with the act, and just be natural. Following their latest defeat,\u00a0Rosenior must ensure that\u00a0Chelsea respond quickly\u00a0and bounce back to form with doubts over his long-term credentials at the club.<\/p>\n

The Blues have another chance to turn things around when they face Leeds United in the FA Cup semifinal at Wembley on Sunday, offering them a possible route to win a silverware this season.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
