RIOLA SARDO (Sardegna, Italy) <\/strong>\u2013 The\u00a02026 FIM Motocross World Championships\u00a0resumes after a weekend off with the annual spring visit to the island of\u00a0Sardegna, as the\u00a0Crossodromo Comunale \u201cLe Dune\u201d circuit\u00a0awaits the MXGP elite for round four of the series!\u00a0<\/p>\n

There has been no shortage of physical challenges already this season, but the deep sand of RIola Sardo will test even the fittest riders as it shifts every lap, sapping the power of both man and machine in what are usually hot conditions for this time of the year.\u00a0 The second-largest island in the Mediterannean Sea is on a similar latitude to that of Andalucia, and the climate, when added to the demanding nature of the circuit, always makes this GP a very tough one!<\/p>\n

In the previous five MXGP events on this island, hosting a GP every year since 2021, no rider has won here more than twice, but three who have done that line up in MXGP this weekend.\u00a0Jeffrey Herlings<\/a>,\u00a0now with the\u00a0Honda HRC Petronas\u00a0squad, won here in 2021 and \u201823, the latter success an emotional one due to him reaching his 100th GP victory.\u00a0\u00a0Kay de Wolf<\/a>\u00a0has taken the MX2 victory in each of the last two years for\u00a0Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing,\u00a0while Herlings\u2019 teammate\u00a0Tom Vialle<\/a>\u00a0took MX2 glory in 2021 & \u201922.<\/p>\n

Current MXGP red plate holder\u00a0Lucas Coenen<\/a>\u00a0took his first ever MXGP race win here last year for\u00a0Red Bull KTM Factory Racing,\u00a0but crashed out of the second outing.\u00a0 With his form in the shallower sands of Almonte, the teenage prodigy has to be a strong favourite this weekend, even though\u00a0Romain Febvre<\/a>\u00a0took the first overall victory of his title-winning season last year for\u00a0Kawasaki Racing Team MXGP.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Reigning MX2 World Champion\u00a0Simon L\u00e4ngenfelder\u00a0took the first Qualifying Race win of his 2025 season here for\u00a0Red Bull KTM Factory Racing,\u00a0\u00a0but he has yet to finish on the podium at Riola Sardo, despite spending a lot of time here in winter training.\u00a0 Nobody in the current MX2 line-up has even won a GP race here, so there are many out to change that situation!<\/p>\n

The\u00a0EMX250 European Championship\u00a0class heads for Sardegna for the first time since 2023, and the sand specialists in the class will be keen to unseat the currently unbeaten Spaniard\u00a0Francisco Garcia<\/a>,\u00a0who has a perfect 100-point total for\u00a0Venum Bud Racing Kawasaki,\u00a0with his Australian teammate\u00a0Jake Cannon<\/a>\u00a0already 27 points back in second! Brazilian sensation\u00a0Bernardo Tiburcio<\/a>\u00a0is third for the\u00a0Yamaha 115 M78 Motorsport\u00a0team, although he probably hasn\u2019t sampled sand like he\u2019ll find at Riola until now!<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a little tighter at the top of the\u00a0EMX125 European Championship Presented by FMF Racing\u00a0standings, as\u00a0Norman KTM Factory Rookies\u00a0teamster\u00a0Moritz Ernecker\u00a0holds just a five-point lead over his teammate and fellow Austrian\u00a0Ricardo Bauer,\u00a0who took the win in Switzerland.\u00a0TMX Comp\u00e9tition KTM\u00a0rider\u00a0Liam Bruneau<\/a>\u00a0took the second race win at Frauenfeld, and sits third in the series, a point ahead of fellow Frenchman\u00a0Sleny Goyer\u00a0for\u00a0Yamaha Europe Monster Energy MJC.\u00a0Top Italian\u00a0Andrea Uccellini\u00a0will be the crowd favourite as he lies fifth for\u00a0TM Moto CRD Motorsport.<\/p>\n

The contrast between this GP and the previous one at Frauenfeld could not be bigger, as we prepare for a weekend of dancing in the dunes at the MXGP of Sardegna, bringing you the next chapter in the already epic 2026 season!\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
