Facebook parent Meta Platforms said on Tuesday it had acquired Moltbook, a social networking platform built for artificial intelligence agents, bringing the company’s \u200bfounders into its AI research division.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

The development signals an intense race \u200camong tech giants to snap up AI talent and technology, as autonomous agents capable of executing real-world tasks move from novelty to the next frontier of the industry.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

The deal \u200bwill bring Moltbook co-founders Matt Schlicht and Ben Parr into Meta \u200bSuperintelligence Labs, the unit led by former Scale AI CEO \u2060Alexandr Wang.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

Schlicht and Parr are expected to begin at Meta Superintelligence Labs \u200bon March 16, according to Axios, which first reported the development.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

Meta did not disclose the \u200bfinancial terms of the deal.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

Moltbook, a Reddit-like site where AI-powered bots appear to swap code and gossip about their human owners, was started as a niche experiment in late January. It \u200bhas since become the centre of a growing debate on how close \u200bcomputers are to possessing human-like intelligence.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman played down the site as a likely \u200cfad \u2060but said the underlying technology offered a glimpse of the future.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

“Moltbook maybe (is a passing fad) but OpenClaw is not,” Altman said.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

OpenAI last month hired Peter Steinberger, the creator of OpenClaw, an open-source bot formerly known as Clawdbot or Moltbot \u200bthat is backing \u200bthe project’s open-sourcing.
Mike \u2060Krieger, Anthropic’s chief product officer, said most people are not yet ready to give AI full autonomy over their \u200bcomputers.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

Schlicht has championed “vibe coding,” building programs with the help of \u200bAI, \u2060saying he “didn’t write one line of code” for the site. Schlicht built Moltbook largely using his own personal AI assistant, Clawd Clawderberg.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

Moltbook’s rise also brought risks. Cybersecurity firm \u2060Wiz \u200bsaid the approach left a major flaw that exposed private messages, \u200bmore than 6,000 email addresses and more than a million credentials.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

Wiz said the problem was fixed \u200bafter it contacted Moltbook.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/section>\n
