Image: Enel Green Power.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Italian renewables platform Whysol Renewables has secured financing towards four agrivoltaics (agriPV) plants and two battery energy storage systems (BESS) in southern Italy.<\/p>\n<p>The company closed a \u20ac319 million (US$366.5 million) financing facility from a group of Italian and international banks and financiers. The BESS projects will qualify for the Electricity Storage Capacity Procurement Mechanism.<\/p>\n<p>In its last auction for FER-X CfD capacity, the Italian government implemented the EU\u2019s Net Zero Industry Act (NZIA) \u201cnon-price criteria\u201d for equipment procurement. It effectively barred projects from using Chinese-made cells and modules in its process. Patrizio Donati, the co-founder and managing director at independent power producer (IPP) Terrawatt, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pv-tech.org\/italy-fer-x-auction-market-correction-or-mirage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote about the implications of the auction<\/a> in a blog for <em>PV Tech<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Italy is a relatively mature market for agriPV projects, which pair solar and agricultural practices on the same piece of land. The government has issued two <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pv-tech.org\/italy-awards-1-5gw-in-oversubscribed-agripv-tender\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">tenders for agriPV capacity<\/a>, amounting to \u20ac1.7 billion (US$1.94 billion) in backing for over 1.5GW of solar generation capacity.<\/p>\n<p>Politics has impacted the growth of agriPV, with complex zoning laws around the use of \u201csuitable areas\u201d for solar development and its intersection with agricultural practices. Back in 2024, the government attempted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pv-tech.org\/italy-bans-solar-on-agricultural-land\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">to ban PV installations on agricultural land<\/a> over apparent conflicts between the two sectors. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pv-tech.org\/italian-court-partially-repeals-decree-on-suitable-areas-agripv-ban\/\" target=\"_blank\"
