{"id":894703,"date":"2026-03-27T05:13:49","date_gmt":"2026-03-27T10:13:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2026\/03\/27\/1700-ex-isg-staff-win-redundancy-claim\/"},"modified":"2026-03-27T05:13:49","modified_gmt":"2026-03-27T10:13:49","slug":"1700-ex-isg-staff-win-redundancy-claim","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2026\/03\/27\/1700-ex-isg-staff-win-redundancy-claim\/","title":{"rendered":"1,700 ex-ISG staff win redundancy claim"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"wrapper_sleeve\">\n<p><img width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.ca.emap.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2023\/10\/ISG.jpg\"  decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"  alt=\"ISG.jpg\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Some 1,686 former ISG employees have won claims against the company over a failure to consult them before they were made redundant.<\/p>\n<p>The former employees are expected to receive 90 days\u2019 worth of pay \u2013 the length of time a consultation process about their future should have lasted.<\/p>\n<p>The combined payout could amount to between \u00a37m-\u00a39m, depending on the level of their combined salaries, with the cost being covered by the taxpayer-funded Redundancy Payments Service.<\/p>\n<p>The weekly total available to them is capped at \u00a3719 and anyone claiming benefits such as jobseekers\u2019 allowance in the period would have their total reduced further.<\/p>\n<p>A tribunal judgment by Regional Employment Judge Rohan Pirani, seen by <em>Construction News<\/em>, found in the ex-employees\u2019 favour against four ISG companies \u2013 ISG Central Services, ISG Construction, ISG Interior Services Group and ISG Retail.<\/p>\n<p>The companies were all found to have failed to comply with section 188 of the Trade Union &#038; Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992.<\/p>\n<p>ISG, which turned over \u00a32.2bn in 2022 and made a pre-tax profit of \u00a311.5m, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/financial\/war-of-words-over-collapsed-isg-sale-20-09-2024\/\">went under after a long-running effort to sell the business broke down in September 2024.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>It employed more than 3,000 people at the time.<\/p>\n<p>Legal firm CFS Redundancy Payments represented the majority of the employees taking action in the employment tribunal case.<\/p>\n<p>The company\u2019s employment consultant James Lewis told <em>CN<\/em> that money should start to be paid to those involved from eight weeks\u2019 time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s an additional claim not always extended to employees so for us to take this on and take it to a tribunal and be successful will be a massive benefit to them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The case is the latest in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/financial\/redundant-process-are-firms-flouting-laying-off-rules-13-12-2022\/\">long line of similar actions<\/a> regarding defunct contractors in recent years, including one in January 2021 against industry giant Carillion, which went under in January 2018.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/contractors\/isg\/1700-ex-isg-staff-win-redundancy-claim-26-03-2026\/\" class=\"button purchase\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Read More<\/a><br \/>\n Ian Weinfass<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Some 1,686 former ISG employees have won claims against the company over a failure to consult them before they were made redundant.
