{"id":893897,"date":"2026-03-24T04:12:17","date_gmt":"2026-03-24T09:12:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2026\/03\/24\/beard-boosts-revenue-as-it-braces-for-market-dip\/"},"modified":"2026-03-24T04:12:17","modified_gmt":"2026-03-24T09:12:17","slug":"beard-boosts-revenue-as-it-braces-for-market-dip","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2026\/03\/24\/beard-boosts-revenue-as-it-braces-for-market-dip\/","title":{"rendered":"Beard boosts revenue as it braces for market dip"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"wrapper_sleeve\">\n<p><img width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.ca.emap.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2025\/06\/Beard-generic.webp\"  decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"  alt=\"Beard-generic.webp\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><span>Beard\u2019s turnover grew to a record level in 2025 although its profit dipped slightly, according to newly published accounts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Swindon-based contractor\u2019s filing shows revenue rose to \u00a3230.2m in the year to 31 December 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>This was up from \u00a3198.4m in the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/financial\/beard-sees-profit-edge-up-despite-rising-costs-27-03-2025\/\"> <span>previous 12 months<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Meanwhile, pre-tax profit fell to \u00a34.5m, having been \u00a35.2m in 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Finance director Fraser Johns said in a statement with the accounts that the firm had outperformed its targets, which he attributed to the strength of the contractor\u2019s partnerships with suppliers and customers, as well as its staff.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>He said the year started with strong demand but that there were signs towards the end of the 12 months that market sentiment was becoming less positive.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cTo this end and throughout 2025, we have focused on driving efficiency at every level in preparation for a more competitive period ahead,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Johns said Beard had maintained its cashflow through a combination of factors, including prompt settlement of final accounts and timely release of retentions from customers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cClose control of our cash ensures we have the right balance between working capital and short-term investments,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The firm closed the year with net assets of \u00a325.7m, up from \u00a324.6m at the end of 2024, and is free of debt financing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In mid-2025, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/sections\/long-reads\/interviews\/rolling-with-the-punches-beard-reviews-recruitment-plans-25-06-2025\/\">Beard told <em>Construction News<\/em><\/a> it was reviewing recruitment plans in light of the increase in employers<span>\u2019<\/span> national insurance contributions. Despite this, average headcount over the year crept up from 336 to 370.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span>Johns said in the accounts that the company had focused on \u201cretaining our core skills as great builders and ensuring we do not become complacent as we grow the business\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The firm made one-off charitable donations totalling \u00a34.4m during the year, including \u00a33.6m to Oxfordshire Community Foundation to establish a fund called The Beard Family Foundation, which is independent of the company and the Beard family.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The fund will support staff and family charity activities in the years ahead, Beard said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Over the course of the year, the company, which has offices in Bristol, Guildford, Oxford, Southampton and Swindon, said it completed 62 projects.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>These included<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/contracts\/beard-to-build-9-2m-bristol-zoo-habitat-28-06-2024\/\"> <span>Bristol Zoo\u2019s \u00a39.6m African Forest<\/span><\/a><span>, a \u00a37.5m headquarters for clothing brand Holland Cooper in Cheltenham and an \u00a311.8m Porsche dealership for Dick Lovett in Bristol.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/sections\/cn-intelligence\/companies\/\" target=\"_blank\"> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/\"><\/a><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/cn-intelligence\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.ca.emap.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2025\/05\/CN-intelligence-article-promo-200-x-200-px.webp\" alt width=\"250\" height=\"250\"  ><\/a><\/p>\n<p>At CN Intelligence you can view and filter seven years\u2019 worth of detailed financial information on the top UK construction firms via our interactive dashboards.
