Profit at MTX Contracts has held steady despite a 12 per cent fall in revenue last year as the modular healthcare construction specialist adjusted its business strategy.<\/p>\n

In its latest accounts for the 12 months to 31 August 2025, the Cheshire-based firm announced turnover of \u00a3113.5m compared to \u00a3129.4m the previous year<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Pre-tax profit rose slightly by \u00a333,000 to \u00a36.9m, resulting in a broader margin of 6 per cent versus 5.2 per cent in the 2024 financial year.<\/p>\n

Directors attributed the drop in turnover to \u201csome delayed starts\u201d but added that the firm entered the current financial year with a record order book.<\/p>\n

They said they expect the current year\u2019s turnover to exceed \u00a3140m, \u201cresulting from increased activity and growth in our preconstruction teams and increases in our total facility management contracts\u201d.<\/p>\n

Construction jobs accounted for 90 per cent of MTX\u2019s revenue in the latest accounts but directors said the past year saw a strategic refresh amid a shift towards public-private partnerships for NHS projects and services.<\/p>\n

They said MTX was \u201cwell placed to support this initiative\u201d, citing managed service models in Plymouth and Oxford where it provides facilities management (FM) alongside core design-and-build services.<\/p>\n

In addition, last November\u2019s \u00a33.5m acquisition of Yorkshire-based Elite Group will enable the contractor to expand further into FM by providing \u201cadditional focus, expertise, resource and supply chains\u201d, directors said.<\/p>\n

MTX\u2019s cash at hand fell slightly from \u00a318.9m to \u00a317.7m, and the firm held no external loans or overdrafts.<\/p>\n

Its average monthly headcount rose by just one employee to 81 but the annual wage bill rose 3 per cent from \u00a34.7m to \u00a34.9m.<\/p>\n

The company paid a dividend of \u00a34.4m during the year, up from \u00a33.75m in the previous accounts.<\/p>\n

Contract wins during the year included a place on the four-year NHS Shared Business Services (SBS) Modular Buildings 3 framework<\/a>, which is worth up to \u00a33.6bn until June 2029.<\/p>\n

After the period covered by the latest accounts, MTX was among\u00a0more than 40 firms appointed to a separate \u00a31bn NHS modular construction framework<\/a>.<\/p>\n

And last month, the firm won a pair of hospital design-and-build jobs in Wales: a \u00a333m facility<\/a> at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Rhyl, and a \u00a379m diagnostics and treatment centre<\/a> (pictured) on a brownfield site in Llantrisant, Rhondda Cynon Taf.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
