{"id":893131,"date":"2026-03-21T02:12:16","date_gmt":"2026-03-21T07:12:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2026\/03\/21\/digger-driver-arrested-after-london-pedestrian-death\/"},"modified":"2026-03-21T02:12:16","modified_gmt":"2026-03-21T07:12:16","slug":"digger-driver-arrested-after-london-pedestrian-death","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2026\/03\/21\/digger-driver-arrested-after-london-pedestrian-death\/","title":{"rendered":"Digger driver arrested after London pedestrian death"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"wrapper_sleeve\">\n<p><img width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.ca.emap.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2025\/05\/ED-ONLY_Metropolitan-police_shutterstock_2427402975.webp\"  decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"  alt=\"ED-ONLY_Metropolitan-police_shutterstock_2427402975.webp\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>A man driving an excavator is in police custody after a 70-year-old pedestrian died in a road traffic collision in north London yesterday (19 March).<\/p>\n<p>A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said the force and ambulance service were called to reports of a collision between a heavy plant vehicle and a pedestrian, just before 11.30am on Kilburn High Road.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSadly, the pedestrian, a 70-year-old man, died at the scene,\u201d the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p>The London Ambulance Service sent <span data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">two ambulance crews, three paramedics in fast response cars and an incident response officer to the scene, as well as a paramedic and a doctor in a car sent by the air ambulance service.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">\u201cThe first paramedic arrived at the scene in around five minutes. <\/span>Despite the efforts of our team, a person sadly died at the scene,\u201d a spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p>One witness told the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2026\/03\/19\/man-crushed-digger-busy-london-high-street-27539428\/\">Metro<\/a><\/em>: \u201cIt was horrible, there was screaming and a woman shouting \u2018move\u2019 to the driver.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe poor man was underneath. People were crying.
