{"id":891196,"date":"2026-02-09T04:17:47","date_gmt":"2026-02-09T10:17:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2026\/02\/09\/out-of-this-world-family-experience-hosted-by-science-centre\/"},"modified":"2026-02-09T04:17:47","modified_gmt":"2026-02-09T10:17:47","slug":"out-of-this-world-family-experience-hosted-by-science-centre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2026\/02\/09\/out-of-this-world-family-experience-hosted-by-science-centre\/","title":{"rendered":"Out of this world family experience hosted by science centre"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  The Science Oxford Centre\u00a0is hosting an out of this world experience, with families invited to visit the Headington destination for special days.\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"po-inline-articlegate-partialarticle\">\n<p>\n  Adults and children alike enjoyed Science Oxford\u2019s indoor-outdoor discovery centre last Saturday, January 17, and can continue to do so every Saturday this year.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Special family days are being held at the Quarry Road centre weekly with over 20 interactive exhibits, from creating a digital Jurassic dinosaur adventure to flying a mission to the Moon at the \u2018Animate Science\u2019 station.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <strong>READ MORE:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oxfordmail.co.uk\/news\/25778722.pub-incredibly-proud-toasts-double-success-camra-awards\/?ref=ed_recent\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Pub &#8216;incredibly proud&#8217; as it toasts double success at CAMRA awards<\/strong><\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Other events coming up include the chance to dig into palaeontology and unearth fossils on loan from Oxford University Museum of Natural History, and during the February half-term an exhibit on the lifecycle of mealworms.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  In addition, the Science Oxford Centre caf\u00e9 is there for food and refreshment with kids\u2019 meal deals and delicious cinnamon buns, all served from the recently refurbished and expanded Emira\u2019s Kitchen.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   width=\"100%\"><span>Family Day at the Science Oxford Centre in Headington on Saturday, January 17 <em>(Image: Ed Nix)<\/em><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  In terms of its exhibits, the centre is particularly proud of its series of pop-up planetarium shows that launched last year, inspired by NASA\u2019s Artemis II rocket at the Kennedy Space Center, which is to carry astronauts around the Moon soon.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  In addition star-gazing evenings for families and local school children have been scheduled.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Along with guests from the Space Store and Abingdon Astronomical Society, children have been able to try on space suits, use moon-inspired crafts and have spotted the International Space Station fly-by.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The Science Oxford Centre&#8217;s community engagement manager Sian Stratton said \u201cIt\u2019s been fantastic to see our sold-out seasonal \u2018Starry Night\u2019 evenings engaging our local communities.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   width=\"100%\"><span>Family Day at the Science Oxford Centre in Headington on Saturday, January 17 <em>(Image: Ed Nix)<\/em><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Meanwhile the centre\u2019s space specialist Kat Kelly said they\u2019ve been telling visitors about the Artemis trip to the moon.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cThis mission is an important step,\u201d she said, \u201ctoward returning people to the lunar surface\u201d.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  She added: \u201cLook out for more space events coming soon.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  A recent family day and planetarium show visitor said, \u201cThis was our first time here and we absolutely loved it.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   width=\"100%\"><span>Family Day at the Science Oxford Centre in Headington on Saturday, January 17 <em>(Image: Ed Nix)<\/em><\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cWe are going away sad about the fact we haven\u2019t known about this for our other children, but we now want to make the most of it for our third.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cThe things on offer kept my 8-year-old gripped for the whole two hours.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  They added: \u201cThe interaction from the staff was amazing.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <strong>READ MORE:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oxfordmail.co.uk\/news\/25771714.harry-potter-avatar-star-portray-water-campaigner-new-channel-4-show\/?ref=ed_recent\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Harry Potter and Avatar star to portray water campaigner in new Channel 4 show<\/strong><\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cHelping, guiding and engaging with us on the most perfect level. We then went to the planetarium which was amazing.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cThe leader was so knowledgeable and made it so fun for all.
