The bucket being used to prop up the body did not have a quick hitch or retaining pin, causing it to become dislodged and fall, HSE investigators found.<\/p>\n<p>Salford Grab Hire Ltd of Tyldesley, Wigan, pleaded guilty to breaching Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.<\/p>\n<p>It was fined \u00a310,000 and ordered to pay costs of \u00a33,475 at Warrington Magistrates\u2019 Court on 27 January.<\/p>\n<p>HSE inspector Rose Leese-Weller said in a statement: \u201cEvery year we see serious and sometimes fatal injuries to people working under a poorly propped vehicle body.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEmployers must not underestimate the risks involved and must ensure that appropriate equipment and systems of work are used when undertaking such work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>HSE <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hse.gov.uk\/pubns\/books\/hsg261.htm\">guidance<\/a> on health and safety in motor vehicle repair and associated industries\u00a0states that elevated vehicle load areas, such as those on tipper lorries, should be effectively propped if access is needed below them.<\/p>\n<p>Props should only be used on firm, level ground and must be designed to adequately carry the loads put onto them.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/health-and-safety\/plant-hire-firm-fined-10k-after-worker-hit-by-jcb-bucket-05-02-2026\/\" class=\"button purchase\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Read More<\/a><br \/>\n Ian Weinfass<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A plant hire company has been fined \u00a310,000 after a 1-tonne JCB bucket fell onto a worker, leaving him with life-changing injuries.
