Knee pain is one of the most common complaints Dr. Noah Marchese sees at HealthChoice Chiropractic in Peachtree City, and it\u2019s one he understands personally.<\/p>\n

Marchese, a chiropractor, had two knee surgeries himself as a teenager after sports injuries in high school. The experience still shapes how he approaches patients who come into his office struggling to walk, work, or stay active.<\/p>\n

\u201cKnee pain is one of those things \u2014 if I see a knee injury in a football game, I have to turn my head,\u201d Marchese said. \u201cI just know how painful knee injuries are, living through them and the surgery and the rehab. So I really want to help people with knee issues.\u201d<\/p>\n

When surgery may not be the only option<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Marchese is clear that chiropractic care is not a replacement for surgery in every case. Some knee injuries require orthopedic intervention, and he refers patients out when that\u2019s the right course.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf your knee is so bone-on-bone it\u2019s ruining your life, and you can\u2019t walk, yes \u2014 go see the knee surgeon,\u201d he said. \u201cBut some people are up and walking. They\u2019re painful, but they\u2019re still functioning. Those are the patients we can often help.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said some patients feel pushed toward knee replacement sooner than necessary, even when they are still mobile and managing daily activities.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe can work on those patients,\u201d Marchese said. \u201cThe goal is to reduce pain, improve movement, and delay or avoid surgery when it\u2019s appropriate.\u201d<\/p>\n

A case that changed everything<\/strong><\/h3>\n

One of the patients who stands out most to Marchese is a plumber in his early 70s who came to HealthChoice with severe knee pain.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe thought he was going to have to sell his business,\u201d Marchese said. \u201cHe couldn\u2019t walk. He told me he was basically in his recliner for two months.\u201d<\/p>\n

After undergoing a combination of therapies at HealthChoice, the patient\u2019s condition changed dramatically.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow he\u2019s back on the job sites,\u201d Marchese said. \u201cHe\u2019s walking around, talking to his guys. He told me we pretty much saved his life \u2014 because he can get out and do things again.\u201d<\/p>\n

Marchese said he hasn\u2019t seen the patient in more than two months, a sign that the improvements have lasted.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s obviously still doing really well,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Helping patients of all ages stay active<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Knee pain isn\u2019t limited to older adults. Marchese also works with younger patients whose injuries threaten their ability to stay active.<\/p>\n

He recently treated a high school senior who is a ballet dancer experiencing lateral knee pain severe enough to interfere with performances and college recruiting.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe said it felt like her knee wanted to give out,\u201d Marchese said. \u201cWe\u2019re doing SoftWave once a week, and it gets her through the week. She\u2019s getting through her dance tryouts, and she\u2019s loving it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Knowing when to refer out<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Marchese emphasized that part of his role is helping patients understand when conservative care is no longer enough.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf the knee is completely gone or misshapen, there\u2019s probably not much we can do,\u201d he said. \u201cIn those cases, I send them to an orthopedic.\u201d<\/p>\n

For many patients, however, early evaluation can make a significant difference.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you\u2019re still walking, still moving, but you\u2019re in pain \u2014 that\u2019s the time to get it checked out,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
