Photo by IMAGO <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Enyimba have confirmed the appointment of former <a href=\"https:\/\/soccernet.ng\/tag\/super-eagles\">Super Eagles<\/a> defender Uche Okechukwu as the club\u2019s new sporting director, Soccernet.ng reports<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>With that move, the Aba Elephants have handed a pivotal leadership role to one of the most respected figures in <a href=\"https:\/\/soccernet.ng\/tag\/nigeria\">Nigerian<\/a> football.<\/p>\n<p>Okechukwu, widely known by his nickname \u2018the Gentle Giant&#8217;, takes over following the resignation of the club\u2019s previous sporting director. His performances earned him a move to Europe in 1990, when he joined Br\u00f8ndby in Denmark.<\/p>\n<p>At Br\u00f8ndby, Okechukwu quickly established himself as a first-team regular, winning two Danish league titles and playing a key role in the club\u2019s run to the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup in 1990\u201391. He would later return to Nigeria towards the end of his playing career, featuring for Ocean Boys and Bayelsa United.<\/p>\n<p>Internationally, Okechukwu was a cornerstone of Nigeria\u2019s golden generation. He won the <a href=\"https:\/\/soccernet.ng\/tag\/afcon\">Africa Cup of Nations<\/a> in 1994, featured at two World Cups and was part of the celebrated Olympic team that claimed gold in Atlanta in 1996.
