The new facility marks the second stage of the hospital\u2019s 3Ts redevelopment.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"560\" data-end=\"753\">The multi-storey building will include high-precision radiotherapy in the basement, expanded outpatient clinics and assessment zones above, and a top-floor inpatient ward with views of the sea.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"755\" data-end=\"1002\">Designs were drawn up to prioritise patient wellbeing and integrate advanced technologies, including AI-powered clinical research spaces.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"755\" data-end=\"1002\">An Oncology Acute Assessment area is intended to reduce A&#038;E attendance for more than 1,000 patients annually.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1004\" data-end=\"1112\">Public realm works will create landscaped gardens between the new centre and the Louisa Martindale Building.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1114\" data-end=\"1400\">Peter Lyons, Laing O\u2019Rourke managing director, said the contractor would draw on lessons from the adjacent scheme to improve efficiency and minimise disruption.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1114\" data-end=\"1400\">He cited the use of digital design tools and offsite manufacturing, although no specific suppliers were named.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1402\" data-end=\"1588\">Dr Sarah Westwell, consultant clinical oncologist and chief of service for cancer, said the facility would offer \u201cprivacy, dignity and hope\u201d to patients and support research integration.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1590\" data-end=\"1702\">The client for the scheme is University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust.<\/p>\n<p>The scheme sits outside the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/buildings\/nhs-to-cut-hospital-delivery-times-by-standardising-80-of-design-07-10-2025\/\">10 NHP hospitals<\/a> which are set to be delivered using 80 per cent modular techniques.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/buildings\/laing-orourke-confirmed-for-250m-sussex-cancer-centre-30-01-2026\/\" class=\"button purchase\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Read More<\/a><br \/>\n Colin Marrs<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Laing O\u2019Rourke has been confirmed to deliver a \u00a3250m cancer centre at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.
