Photo by Segun Ogunfeyitimi Copyright: xshengolpixsxIMAGO<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>NSC Director General Bukola Olopade confirmed that informal steps had already been taken, revealing his personal involvement in opening lines of communication with the coach.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI had dinner with him two days ago at my house in Abuja,\u201d Olopade revealed in an exclusive interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/footy-africa.com\/nsc-boss-olopade-confirms-chelles-extension-talks-defends-osimhen-after-criticism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Footy Africa<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am not the NFF President, but we work collaboratively. Photo by Segun Ogunfeyitimi Copyright: xshengolpixsxIMAGO<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Olopade was adamant that <a href=\"https:\/\/soccernet.ng\/tag\/nigeria\">Nigeria<\/a> should act quickly, not least because the NSC pays Chelle\u2019s salary and therefore has a major stake in how the situation develops.<\/p>\n<p>The football administrator also brushed aside reports linking the coach with other countries, saying:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cEric Chelle is not going anywhere. Those countries do not have the kind of superstars that make his job easier. Chelle was handed a two-year contract in January 2025, when the NFF decided to make him the first non-Nigerian African to head the Super Eagles.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_189722\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-189722\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/soccernet.ng\/app\/uploads\/2025\/12\/G8Ppu5eXEAELaNu.jpeg\" alt=\"Soccer Nigeria Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle\" width=\"1366\" height=\"2048\"  ><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-189722\">Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle. Photo Credit: NFF Comms<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>President Ibrahim Gusau has made it clear that the federation intends to follow the terms of Chelle\u2019s existing deal, which runs until January 2027.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThere will be no contract extension discussion with Eric Chelle, the Super Eagles coach, for now,\u201d Gusau said as per <a href=\"https:\/\/thesun.ng\/no-contract-extension-talks-for-chelle-now-nff\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Sun.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe signed a two-year deal with him in January 2025. He\u2019s only halfway through his contract. In the last six months of his current deal, we can start to look at things.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>That cautious stance comes at a time when Chelle\u2019s stock has never been higher. Tunisia, Angola and Gabon are all understood to be monitoring his situation, while a return to Mali is also not completely ruled out.
