{"id":888060,"date":"2026-01-26T23:20:20","date_gmt":"2026-01-27T05:20:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2026\/01\/26\/spiked-60-minutes-segment-spreads-online-after-canadian-tv-network-posts-unedited-episode\/"},"modified":"2026-01-26T23:20:20","modified_gmt":"2026-01-27T05:20:20","slug":"spiked-60-minutes-segment-spreads-online-after-canadian-tv-network-posts-unedited-episode","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2026\/01\/26\/spiked-60-minutes-segment-spreads-online-after-canadian-tv-network-posts-unedited-episode\/","title":{"rendered":"Spiked \u201960 Minutes\u2019 Segment Spreads Online After Canadian TV Network Posts Unedited Episode"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>\n\tThe <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/60-minutes\/\" id=\"auto-tag_60-minutes_1\" data-tag=\"60-minutes\">60 Minutes<\/a> <\/em>segment that was spiked by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/cbs\/\" id=\"auto-tag_cbs_1\" data-tag=\"cbs\">CBS<\/a> News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss for not being ready is now readily available online, after the network that airs the show in Canada ran the original version of the program and subsequently released it online.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tA source in Canada confirmed that as of earlier Monday evening, the full original <em>60 Minutes <\/em>episode, including the \u201cInside CECOT\u201d segment that was pulled at the last minute, was available via Global TV\u2019s streaming platform.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<em>60 Minutes<\/em>\u00a0had been slated to run the segment, which featured Sharyn Alfonsi as the correspondent and Oriana Zill de Granados as the producer speaking to Venezuelans who had been deported by the Trump administration to El Salvador\u2019s notorious CECOT prison.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tWeiss, however, asked that it be pulled before it aired.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\u201cI held a\u00a0<em>60 Minutes<\/em>\u00a0story because it was not ready,\u201d she <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/bari-weiss-defends-decision-spike-60-minutes-story-1236457093\/\">told staff Monday morning<\/a>. \u201cWhile the story presented powerful testimony of torture at CECOT, it did not advance the ball\u2014the\u00a0<em>Times<\/em>\u00a0and other outlets have previously done similar work. The public knows that Venezuelans have been subjected to horrific treatment at this prison. To run a story on this subject two months later, we need to do more. And this is\u00a0<em>60 Minutes<\/em>. We need to be able to get the principals on the record and on camera. Our viewers come first. Not the listing schedule or anything else. That\u2019s my north star and I hope it\u2019s yours, too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tBy the time Weiss asked that the episode be adjusted, the network had already released that week\u2019s lineup for the newsmagazine, and it came too late and ran in Canada (or whoever is responsible for transmitting the episode to the Canadian TV partner did not make the requested change).<\/p>\n<p>\n\tThe result is that the segment is now widely available on platforms like X and YouTube from viewers posting their videos of the segment, though copyright complaints from CBS could temper that enthusiasm.<\/p>\n<p>\n\tAlfonsi, meanwhile, was outraged by the move, emailing her colleagues that \u201cour story was screened five times and cleared by both CBS attorneys and Standards and Practices.\u00a0It is factually correct,\u201d Alfonsi wrote. \u201cIn my view, pulling it now\u2014after every rigorous internal check has been met is not an editorial decision, it is a political one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\tWeiss told staff that she is serious about getting the story on air once her concerns have been addressed, though Global TV\u2019s move will now let viewers see whatever changes CBS makes to the final version.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-news\/spiked-60-minutes-segment-posted-online-airs-canada-1236457731\/\" class=\"button purchase\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Read More<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The 60 Minutes segment that was spiked by CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss for not being ready is now readily available online, after the network that airs the show in Canada ran the original version of the program and subsequently released it online.
