He joined The Verge in 2019 after nearly two years at Techmeme.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"zephr-anchor\">\n<p>Betterment, a financial app, sent a sketchy-looking notification on Friday asking users to send $10,000 to Bitcoin and Ethereum crypto wallets and promising to \u201ctriple your crypto,\u201d according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/betterment\/comments\/1q8n1r2\/this_seems_suspicious_triple_crypto_app\/\">thread on Reddit<\/a>. The Betterment account says in an X thread that this was an \u201cunauthorized message\u201d that was sent via a \u201cthird-party system.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s the notification that some people got, per a screenshot in the Reddit thread (some reported getting a similar notification <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/betterment\/comments\/1q8n354\/scam\/\">over email<\/a>, too):<\/p>\n<div>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>We\u2019ll triple your crypto!
