There\u2019s a lot of commentary that Democrats are declining with the \u201cworking class.\u201d Those analyses are usually grounded in <\/span>declining Democratic support<\/a> among voters without four-year degrees,<\/span> particularly whites<\/a>. But in the latest edition of Right Now, TNR\u2019s <\/span>Monica Potts<\/a> explains why working class and college-educated should not be treated as synonyms. Many fairly well-off Americans, particularly those living in rural areas and over 65, don\u2019t have degrees. And some with degrees, particularly in <\/span>urban areas<\/a>, struggle to afford basic necessities. Potts argues that the Democrats lost in 2024 largely because of <\/span>worldwide anti-incumbent sentiment<\/a>. The path back for Democrats, she argues, isn\u2019t by fixating on the working class or any other bloc of the electorate. Instead, the key is the party finding a few issues to be \u201cloud\u201d about, ensuring those themes<\/span> reach occasional voters<\/a> and people who don\u2019t pay much attention to politics. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
