According to Fox News, in the weeks leading up to the raid, FBI and Justice Department officials <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/newrepublic.com\/post\/204503\/trump-team-tries-deranged-new-argument-classified-documents-case\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">voiced concerns<\/a><span> they had not dug up enough evidence to establish probable cause.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>\u201cUnreasonable Search and Seizure!!! That was the FBI\u2019s CRIMINAL RAID on Mar-a-Lago. This can never be allowed to happen again!!!\u201d Trump wrote on Truth Social. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Trump then shared a post from Truth Social user Jay Anthony, who wrote: \u201cSomeone should be arrested. Wray &#038; Garland.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201c\u2026 And many others!!!\u201d Trump <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/115732907047025888\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">added<\/a><span>. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>It seems that Trump\u2019s revenge tour against his so-called \u201cdeep state\u201d enemies will soon turn to those involved in the August 2022 raid.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>It\u2019s worth noting that the story about probable cause isn\u2019t new. During Trump\u2019s classified documents trial, Judge Aileen Cannon <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/joycevance.substack.com\/p\/jack-smith-testifies-before-the-house?utm_source=post-email-title&#038;publication_id=607357&#038;post_id=181823816&#038;utm_campaign=email-post-title&#038;isFreemail=false&#038;r=2j0en6&#038;triedRedirect=true&#038;utm_medium=email\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">rejected<\/a><span> the notion that dissent among the ranks at the FBI invalidated the probable cause used to obtain a search warrant for the president\u2019s residence, an exceptional finding for the judge who would later toss out Trump\u2019s 42 felony charges.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"ContainerPlacement1\">\n<p>Read more about Trump\u2019s retribution tour:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>MAGA isn\u2019t buying White House chief of staff Susie Wiles\u2019s excuses for humiliating Donald Trump\u2019s team. <\/p>\n<p>Wiles tried Tuesday to <a href=\"https:\/\/newrepublic.com\/post\/204488\/susie-wiles-reaction-quotes-vanity-fair-interview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">explain away<\/a> revealing her <a href=\"https:\/\/newrepublic.com\/post\/204481\/susie-wiles-criticizes-trump-team\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">unfiltered opinions<\/a> about several Trumpworld figures in an interview with <i>Vanity Fair.<\/i> She claimed the article was a \u201cdisingenuously framed hit piece\u201d that \u201cdisregarded\u201d context to \u201cpaint an overwhelmingly chaotic and negative narrative.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>While members of Trumpworld leaped to Wiles\u2019s defense, MAGA wasn\u2019t quite as forgiving. Lara Logan, a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/us-news\/lara-logan-placed-leave-over-discredited-60-minutes-report-flna2d11660389\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">discredited<\/a><span> former CBS correspondent and prominent figure in far-right media, slammed Wiles\u2019s apparent na\u00efvet\u00e9.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIt is too late in the game for this to be a defense. Anyone close to the President should know that Vanity Fair leads the way in the information war for Trump\u2019s most powerful &#038; despicable enemies,\u201d she <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/laralogan\/status\/2001012701774893072?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">wrote on X<\/a><span>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIf you do not know this, you are not qualified to be in a junior role let alone a senior one,\u201d Logan added. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>Joel Pollak, the opinion editor at the conservative tabloid <i>California Post,<\/i> also questioned Wiles\u2019s decision to speak with <i>Vanity Fair<\/i> in the first place. \u201cI don\u2019t know why Republicans continue to give privileged access to mainstream media or center-left publications determined to destroy them,\u201d he <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/joelpollak\/status\/2000934200250433550?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">wrote on X<\/a>, calling publications such as <i>Vanity Fair <\/i>and <i>The New York Times<\/i> \u201cDemocrat agenda-driven outlets.\u201d <\/p>\n<p><span>Mike Cernovich, a right-wing commentator with more than 1.4 million followers on X, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Cernovich\/status\/2001030368842195171?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">accused<\/a><span> Wiles of doing \u201cglam interviews with Bolshevik media.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Cernovich\/status\/2001020199638852096?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">another post<\/a><span>, Cernovich offered Wiles some advice: \u201cYou don\u2019t have to do the media interview. You don\u2019t have to talk to anyone. They will say, \u2018We are going to write about you whether you cooperate or not.\u2019 Who cares. Far worse than some hit piece (which don\u2019t even work anymore) is hanging yourself with your own words.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><span>ICE agents violently restrained a woman in Minneapolis on Monday, dragging her through the snow and pinning her face down as onlookers shouted that the woman was pregnant.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>During what was supposed to be a \u201ctargeted vehicle stop,\u201d <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/minnesota\/news\/minneapolis-ice-confrontation-police-chief-brian-ohara-responds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span>according to ICE officials<\/span><\/a><span>, protesters swarmed the agents. Esme Murphy, a WCCO reporter, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/minnesota\/news\/ice-agents-south-minneapolis-clash-protests\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span>was on the scene<\/span><\/a><span>, where she saw ICE holding a woman on the ground.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>\u201cPlease let her go! She\u2019s pregnant!\u201d one onlooker <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TheJFreakinC\/status\/2001014215969267959?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span>shouted<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cGet her off of her fucking stomach,\u201d another said.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure>\n<blockquote data-media-max-width=\"560\">\n<div lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p>\ud83d\udea8This is one of the most disturbing videos of ICE abuse I\u2019ve seen.<\/p>\n<p>In Minnesota, ICE agents handcuffed a pregnant woman, forced her onto her stomach, and put their full body weight and knees on her, refusing to let her get up.<\/p>\n<p>In the video, you can hear the crowd screaming\u2026 <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/4nk2uTsOQg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/4nk2uTsOQg<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u2014 Jesus Freakin Congress (@TheJFreakinC) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TheJFreakinC\/status\/2001014215969267959?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">December 16, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/figure>\n<p><span>In response to this, one agent <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=HyjNGaugRYA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">fired a Taser<\/a><span> into the crowd. \u201cWho wants more?\u201d he taunted, according to WCCO.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>\u201cWe kept yelling, \u2018She is pregnant, she\u2019s pregnant,\u2019\u201d resident Tonika Deutch <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/minnesota\/news\/ice-agents-south-minneapolis-clash-protests\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span>told Murphy<\/span><\/a><span>. \u201cThey put their knees on her. We kept telling them, \u2018She can\u2019t breathe, let her up, let her up.\u2019\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The woman was then dragged by one arm, as the crowd continued to yell and plead with the ICE agents. Bystanders threw snowballs, and ICE agents fired pepper spray into the crowd\u2014hitting Murphy, the reporter, as well as her photographer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>ICE called the Minneapolis Police Department for backup. Once they arrived, the officers determined there was \u201cno violence occurring\u201d against the agents. \u201cWe have been training our officers for the last five years very, very intensely on de-escalation, but unfortunately that is \u2026 often not what we are seeing from other agencies in the city,\u201d Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O\u2019Hara told WCCO.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>According to ICE, they succeeded in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/minnesota\/news\/minneapolis-ice-confrontation-police-chief-brian-ohara-responds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span>arresting the targets<\/span><\/a><span> of their operation: a young Ecuadorian couple who were abducted from their car, its windows shattered by agents. The woman is currently in custody in Illinois, and it\u2019s not known where her husband is being held. Two U.S. citizens were also <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/minnesota\/news\/minneapolis-ice-confrontation-police-chief-brian-ohara-responds\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span>arrested<\/span><\/a><span> for assaulting federal officers, according to CBS.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>Four House Republicans have rejected the party line to give Obamacare more juice.<\/p>\n<p><span>In a major act of defiance against House Speaker Mike Johnson, GOP Representatives Brian Fitzpatrick, Mike Lawler, Robert Bresnahan, and Ryan Mackenzie signed Democrats\u2019 Affordable Care Act discharge petition Wednesday morning.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>They join every House Democrat in doing so, bringing the overall tally on the petition to the 218 signatures required to force a vote on whether to extend enhanced ACA subsidies for another three years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Last week, Johnson granted Fitzpatrick and Representative Jen Kiggans an opportunity to vote on an amendment to extend the subsidies. But differing opinions over the amendment\u2019s text had blocked efforts to make a deal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Kiggans is not expected to sign the petition, people close to her told <\/span><i><a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/house\/5652594-fitzpatrick-jeffries-obamacare-discharge-petition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Hill<\/a><span>.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>The successful effort does not translate into immediate action, however. Signatories on the petition will have to wait at least seven legislative days to recognize it, according to House rules, after which House leadership will have two days to respond. That would likely put the ACA vote on the agenda sometime around New Year\u2019s Eve, but Johnson could voluntarily speed up the process if he wanted to.<\/p>\n<p>Johnson did not respond when asked by <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/sarahnferris\/status\/2001317041542762898\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">CNN<\/a> as to whether he would permit a vote before the year\u2019s end.<\/p>\n<p><span>The Obamacare subsidies that were enacted under the previous administration are slated to expire on December 31. Without them, health insurance premiums for more than 20 million Americans are expected to double.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>If the subsidies completely lapse or expire\u2014as most Republicans seemingly want them to do\u2014practically everyone will feel the pain: Policy analysts expect a mass exodus from Obamacare plans altogether that could leave roughly <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.urban.org\/urban-wire\/four-million-people-will-lose-health-insurance-if-premium-tax-credit-enhancements-expire#:~:text=The%20expiration%20of%20enhanced%20PTCs%20has%20varied%20effects%20by%20state&#038;text=Since%20then%2C%20Marketplace%20plan%20selections,of%20less%20than%202%20percent.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">four million Americans completely uninsured<\/a><span>. The spike in uninsured Americans will spur a nationwide public health problem that has historically made <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.americanprogress.org\/article\/the-cost-shift-from-the-uninsured\/#:~:text=Some%20mistakenly%20believe%20that%20the,care%20plans%20in%20every%20state.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">premiums more expensive for the insured<\/a><span> as hospitals look to recoup the lost cash.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>But Johnson apparently doesn\u2019t see that forthcoming domino effect.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cHere\u2019s the false narrative: Democrats are pretending as though this affects everybody in the country,\u201d Johnson told <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/factpostnews\/status\/2001314744070803564?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">CNBC<\/a><span> two hours before the Republican defection. \u201cIt affects 7 percent of Americans, this extended subsidy.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><i>This story has been updated.<\/i><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"ContainerPlacement1\">\n<p>Read more about health care:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><span>Donald Trump got excited on Tuesday describing his bombing campaign against suspected drug boats, at a Hanukkah reception at the White House.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe only time anybody could see those planes was when those bomb chutes open up, because it becomes totally un-stealth,\u201d Trump began, making hand gestures to describe the airstrikes. \u201cYou\u2019re going in, you go like this. And as soon as it goes like this, for some reason, the plane is totally visible, not good. And I watched it happening.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>Trump continued on, getting more animated, to scattered laughter in the crowd.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cAnd I watched it happening, it\u2019s like I\u2019m sitting home watching it, you know, it\u2019s amazing, the situation room is an amazing place. Trump won\u2019t admit to any issues, though, lashing out reports of his <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/newrepublic.com\/post\/194883\/trump-alcatraz-idea-movies-cognitive-decline\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">cognitive decline<\/a><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>It\u2019s not good that Trump gets excited about dropping bombs and killing people, especially when the bombings are <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/newrepublic.com\/post\/204279\/george-w-bush-torture-guy-trump-crossing-line-drug-boat-strikes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">likely illegal<\/a><span> and seem to be a prelude to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/newrepublic.com\/post\/204483\/susie-wiles-trump-reason-drug-boat-strikes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">regime change<\/a><span> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/newrepublic.com\/post\/204466\/donald-trump-fentanyl-weapon-mass-destruction-invade-venezuela\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">war with Venezuela<\/a><span>. And the fact that Trump seems to be experiencing early-stage dementia probably means that national security is in danger.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><span>The price tag on the White House ballroom just keeps climbing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Speaking at a Hanukkah reception at the White House Tuesday night, Donald Trump nonchalantly dropped that the cost of building the 90,000-square-foot dance pad had grown to $400 million.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>\u201cI think it\u2019ll be the greatest ballroom anywhere in the world,\u201d Trump <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/acyn\/status\/2001115088334544951\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">said<\/a><span>. \u201cWho else but in our country would sue to stop a $400 million beautiful ballroom that people have been after for the White House?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe White House has wanted a ballroom for 150 years,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>But exactly who has been clamoring for the facility\u2014which will dwarf the 55,000-square-foot mansion\u2014is not clear. Even the architect of the project, James McCrery II, disagreed with the size and scope of Trump\u2019s ginormous ballroom, claiming that its construction would violate basic architectural principles. But McCrery\u2019s opinion eventually <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2025\/12\/05\/nx-s1-5633463\/trump-replaces-architect-on-ballroom-project-after-clashes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">got him fired<\/a><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>The project\u2019s price tag has seemingly grown by 100 percent since Trump first pitched it in July. The original $200 million cost became $300 million in October, as soon as Trump started tearing into the White House East Wing. The historic wing has been completely razed in the process, despite the president\u2019s initial promises to build the addition \u201cnear but not touching\u201d the actual White House.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Since Trump\u2019s other promises have fallen flat, there seems to be no guarantee that the cost of the development will actually be funded \u201c100 percent\u201d by Trump and \u201csome friends\u201d of his. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The White House suggested that the project would be paid for, in part, by some of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/newrepublic.com\/post\/202163\/trump-donors-white-house-ballroom\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">country\u2019s wealthiest families and biggest corporations<\/a><span>, including the likes of Apple, Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and Meta. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>Some major players in the defense industry with massive federal contracts have also pledged significant cash to develop the ballroom, including Lockheed Martin and Palantir.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"ContainerPlacement1\">\n<p>Read more about the ballroom:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><span>Donald Trump bragged about one of his biggest donors, Miriam Adelson, donating $250 million to his campaign in 2024, at a White House Hanukkah event Tuesday night. Adelson then told the audience that Trump could run for a third term and whispered something in Trump\u2019s ear. Trump smiled widely as he announced she\u2019d offer him another $250 million.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Adelson, a staunch supporter of right-wing Israeli causes, said that a third term, which is unconstitutional, was possible for Trump with the help of disgraced attorney and Israel supporter Alan Dershowitz, who is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecrimson.com\/article\/2025\/11\/13\/epstein-dershowitz-emails\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">implicated<\/a> in the Jeffrey Epstein files.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>\u201cMiriam gave my campaign, indirectly and directly, 250 million, she was number one,\u201d Trump told the crowd. \u201cWhen somebody can give you 250 million, I think that we should give her the opportunity to say hello. And Miriam, make it quick, because 250 million is not what it used to be.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Adelson then came to the stage and told the crowd about how she had recently \u201cmet Alan Dershowitz, and he said the legal thing about four more years.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cAnd I say, Alan, I agree with you. So, we can do it. Think about it,\u201d Adelson <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/yashar\/status\/2001134754054427032\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span>. Adelson\u2019s money doesn\u2019t come without strings, either: Just like in 2024, the billionaire widow of casino magnate Sheldon Adelson will likely <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nymag.com\/intelligencer\/article\/miriam-adelson-trump-2024-campaign-donor-israel.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">push<\/a><span> for the United States to recognize Israel\u2019s annexation of the West Bank.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Last year, Trump told pro-Israel donors including Adelson that he would set back the pro-Palestinian movement by \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2024\/05\/27\/trump-israel-gaza-policy-donors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span>25 or 30 years<\/span><\/a><span>,\u201d and so far, it seems that at least Adelson is happy with the job Trump is doing. Meanwhile, more than 70,000 Palestinians have been killed by Israel in the last two years, including over <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lemonde.fr\/en\/international\/article\/2025\/12\/14\/gaza-s-grim-death-toll-after-two-months-of-so-called-ceasefire_6748482_4.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span>379 casualties<\/span><\/a><span> two months after a ceasefire in Gaza was declared. But at least Trump will get paid to stay in office illegally, right? <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>White House chief of staff Susie Wiles may have just ruined any chance President Donald Trump had of reviving his administration\u2019s indictment of New York Attorney General Letitia James. <\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/newrepublic.com\/post\/204481\/susie-wiles-criticizes-trump-team\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">wildly candid interview<\/a> with <i>Vanity Fair<\/i> published Tuesday, Wiles admitted that Trump\u2019s effort to go after James over flimsy charges of mortgage fraud was his \u201cone retribution.\u201d (He has arguably had far more than one.)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>Wiles explained that she hadn\u2019t felt compelled to warn Trump off of James because \u201cshe had a half a billion dollars of his money.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>If the Trump administration ever wanted to seek an indictment against James again, it\u2019s more than likely that the opposing legal team would simply have to cite Wiles to get the case tossed out again. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Justice Department has tried three times to indict James\u2014unsuccessfully in each instance, including <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/justice-department\/justice-department-fails-third-attempt-indict-new-york-attorney-genera-rcna248282\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">one failed attempt<\/a><span> as recent as last week. The original indictment against James was dismissed last month when a judge ruled that the Trump administration had <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/newrepublic.com\/post\/203602\/federal-judge-kills-trump-revenge-case-james-comey\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">improperly appointed<\/a><span> the lead attorney, who had no prosecutorial experience at all. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>Wiles was quick to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/newrepublic.com\/post\/204488\/susie-wiles-reaction-quotes-vanity-fair-interview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">claim<\/a><span> that many of her quotes were taken out of context, but she\u2019s already been <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/newrepublic.com\/post\/204509\/trump-chief-staff-susie-wiles-lie-trash-talking-recording\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">caught lying<\/a><span> about what she did and did not say. Multiple members of Trumpworld have voiced support for Wiles in the face of supposedly fake news. Perhaps Emmer was trying to pivot to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/11\/29\/us\/fraud-minnesota-somali.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">scandal<\/a><span> in Minnesota, in which the state\u2019s social services system was defrauded out of more than $1 billion in taxpayer dollars. Federal prosecutors allege that nearly all of the perpetrators came from Minnesota\u2019s Somali community. So far, prosecutors have convicted 59 people. Let \u2019em go back to where they came from and fix it.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>Representative Ilhan Omar just called the Department of Homeland Security\u2019s bluff after it denied that ICE agents had ever pulled over her son.<\/p>\n<p><span>DHS <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/DHSgov\/status\/2000979658179752224?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">claimed<\/a><span> Tuesday that the agency had \u201cabsolutely ZERO record\u201d of federal agents pulling over Omar\u2019s son, after the Minnesota Democrat <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/newrepublic.com\/post\/204411\/ilhan-omar-son-ice\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">revealed<\/a><span> over the weekend that her son had been in the crosshairs of the Trump administration\u2019s immigration crackdown targeting the Somali American community in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>\u201cWith no evidence, it is shameful that Congresswoman Omar would level accusations to demonize ICE as part of a PR stunt,\u201d DHS said in a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/DHSgov\/status\/2000979658179752224?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">statement on X<\/a><span>. The department denied that it had committed racial profiling, and said that federal law enforcement uses \u201creasonable suspicion\u201d to make arrests.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>But the Somali American congresswoman doubled down\u2014and told DHS to bring receipts. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThe congresswoman\u2019s son and others were pulled over by ICE, racially profiled, and forced to prove their citizenship with a passport. ICE has long operated as a rogue agency beyond reform,\u201d she said in a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/prem_thakker\/status\/2000995513072484670?s=20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">statement<\/a><span>. \u201cIt\u2019s no surprise that an agency known for disappearing people also can\u2019t keep its records straight. ICE now claims it has records of all the stops, and our office would welcome the opportunity to review them.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><span>It\u2019s pretty ironic that ICE would balk at claims that it engaged in racial profiling after it\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/newrepublic.com\/post\/198933\/ice-supreme-court-racial-profiling-trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">begged<\/a><span> the Supreme Court to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/newrepublic.com\/post\/200140\/sotomayor-supreme-court-dissent-racial-profiling-ice\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">allow it to<\/a><span> profile individuals based on race, ethnicity, and language in its efforts to detain immigrants. And of course, there are also plenty of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/newrepublic.com\/post\/203325\/border-patrol-chief-bovino-asks-brown-man-do-you-speak-english\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">well-documented<\/a><span> <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/newrepublic.com\/post\/201745\/ice-detains-us-citizen-doesnt-look-american\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">reports<\/a><span> of ICE and Border Patrol agents racially profiling people.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Earlier this month, a federal judge <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/newrepublic.com\/post\/203915\/judge-stephen-miller-ignorant-incompetent-both-warrantless-arrests\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">ruled<\/a><span> that the Trump administration had illegally lowered the standard for making immigration arrests when it instituted a policy of \u201creasonable suspicion\u201d instead of \u201cprobable cause.\u201d The judge barred federal officers from making warrantless arrests unless the person was in the country illegally and a flight risk.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/newrepublic.com\/post\/204544\/donald-trump-next-chopping-block-christopher-wray-merrick-garland\" class=\"button purchase\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Read More<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>President Donald Trump signaled he plans to go after former FBI Director Christopher Wray and former Attorney General Merrick Garland.
