The Cyclones (No. 2) tied their highest ranking in program history this week after starting the season 16-0, but Iowa State is almost certainly going to drop a few spots in next week’s AP Top 25 poll with UConn is the team most likely to move up to No. 2 on Monday. Braden Huff has a knee issue that’s going to keep him out at least a month (and sounds like it could be longer), but beyond that, a Gonzaga spokesperson told CBS Sports shortly before Saturday night’s game that star center Graham Ike was day-to-day with an ankle injury suffered in Gonzaga’s win earlier this week at Washington State.

The Zags needed overtime at home 15 days ago to avoid the upset against defensive-minded Seattle.

A Gonzaga loss seemingly was on the table Saturday.

Instead? The ninth-ranked Bulldogs got to 19-1 with a surprisingly easy 71-50 win, turning the defensive tables on the new-to-the-WCC Redhawks. Spanish freshman guard Mario Saint-Supery had 20 points off the bench. So much for the scare. It is tied for the second-worst start to conference play for OU since 1955-56 when the Sooners – then in the Big 7 (!!) – opened league play 0-10 before going on to finish 1-11 (and 4-19 overall).

OU has made a habit of flailing to the finish – it is the third time in the last four games it has surrendered a second-half lead – but more concerning is that this is all happening in Year Five of the Porter Moser era.
