\n\tNBC<\/a> is truly bringing back pilot season. In addition to the barrage of January pilot orders \u2014 six over the past four days \u2014 the network also has revived another forgotten pilot season tradition: Friday night greenlights.<\/p>\n \n\tGetting pilot orders tonight are dramas Puzzled<\/a><\/em>, from former\u00a0Charmed<\/em>\u00a0showrunner\u00a0Joey Falco, and What the Dead Know<\/a>, <\/em>from Dick Wolf<\/a>\u2018s Wolf Entertainment and writer Beth Rinehart (FBI: Most Wanted<\/em>). <\/p>\n \n\tBoth projects are crime\/cop procedurals based on books, Danielle Trussoni\u2019s novel The Puzzle Master <\/em>and former New York City medical examiner Barbara Butcher\u2019s memoir What the Dead Know, <\/em>respectively. Both are produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group. <\/p>\n \n\tIn Puzzled,<\/em> written by Falco who executive produces with Jordan Cerf, after barely escaping a tragic fire, once-promising college athlete Mike Brink is transformed by a traumatic brain injury that gives him the unique ability to see the world in an unexpected way and helps him solve crimes with local police.<\/p>\n \n\tTrussoni serves as producer. <\/p>\n \n\tWritten by Rinehart, What the Dead Know<\/em> centers on death Investigator Ava Ledger who is really good with dead bodies. It\u2019s the living that give her trouble. The series follows Ava as she teams with the NYPD to solve their toughest cases.<\/p>\n \n\tRinehart executive produces with Wolf Entertainment\u2019s Dick Wolf, Tom Thayer, Peter Jankowski and Anastasia Puglisi. Kevin Plunkett, Rebecca McGill and Butcher co-executive produce. <\/p>\n \n\tNBC had been expected to pick up a sizable number of pilots<\/a> by today\u2019s standards this pilot season \u2014 about four dramas and four comedies. The network is already overdelivering on its goal with five drama pilots<\/a> \u2014 The Rockford Files<\/em>\u00a0reboot<\/a>,\u00a0Protection<\/a>, <\/em>the\u00a0untitled Georgaris\/Fox project<\/a>, Puzzled<\/em> and What the Dead Know.<\/em> Interestingly, all are in the crime genre and most are procedurals, indicating a clear programming focus for the network this season.
