John F Hunt has fallen to a \u00a33.5m pre-tax loss after the firm was hit hard by a client\u2019s collapse.<\/span><\/p>\n

In its latest accounts for the year to 31 March 2025, the UK\u2019s<\/span> second-biggest demolition contractor<\/span><\/a> said it had lost \u00a35.1m in the wake of the fall into administration of a \u201cmajor London-based hotel developer\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

The company said it had been working on a high-profile London hotel scheme when the client went under.<\/span><\/p>\n

The previous year, John F Hunt had tabled a pre-tax profit of \u00a31.6m.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the latest period, its turnover rose from \u00a389.2m to \u00a3102.5m. Cash fell from \u00a38.8m to \u00a38.6m.<\/span><\/p>\n

Group finance director Ian Saville said the firm had recorded the full anticipated impact of the client\u2019s collapse in the latest reported accounting year. He expected John F Hunt would claw back some money owed by the developer, via the administration process.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhile the administrators\u2019 report indicates that a partial recovery may be available to unsecured creditors subject to the approval of a revised planning application, no such recovery has been recognised at the balance-sheet date,\u201d he added.<\/span><\/p>\n

Saville said the firm had achieved several \u201csignificant\u201d contract awards, and reported \u201cstrong\u201d tendering activity throughout the year.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, he warned that the contractor\u2019s secured workload for 2025\/26 had reduced due to \u201cdelays to several large projects arising from planning-related matters\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

The firm forecast that its workload would increase in 2026\/27, with delayed projects expected to progress.<\/span><\/p>\n

In October 2024, midway through the accounting period, John F Hunt<\/span> announced its sale to an employee-ownership trust<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The company was the 94th<\/span> biggest contractor in the UK\u2019s construction sector, according to the latest CN100 ranking<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
