According to top Nigerian journalist Oluwashina Okeleji, the NFF have not paid the players and staff their win bonuses from all four games they have played so far in Morocco.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Three-time <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/AFCON?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">#AFCON<\/a> champions <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Nigeria?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">#Nigeria<\/a> have a strange ability to self-sabotage.<\/p>\n<p>Officials made a promise to the players &#038; coaching staff ahead of the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/AFCON2025?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">#AFCON2025<\/a> tournament.<\/p>\n<p>After going unbeaten to reach the quarterfinal vs <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/Algeria?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">#Algeria<\/a>, the squad will NOT train or travel on Thursday. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/RnzWDmiCNs\">pic.twitter.com\/RnzWDmiCNs<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ol\u00fawash\u00edn\u00e0 Okeleji (@oluwashina) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/oluwashina\/status\/2008911392762482743?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">January 7, 2026<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>As a result, the players have embarked on a strike. They were expected to travel to Marrakech on Thursday ahead of their quarterfinal against Algeria on Saturday, but they plan to remain in Fez if their demands are not met. They have also refused to train.<\/p>\n<h2>Soccer Super Eagles: When Will The NFF Change?<\/h2>\n<p>The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have built a reputation of being perennial debtors. In the last international break in November 2025, the <a href=\"https:\/\/soccernet.ng\/2025\/11\/super-eagles-epl-osimhen-lookman-world-cup-gabon.html\">players also went on strike before their crucial World Cup playoffs against Gabon<\/a>, but the matter was settled within 24 hours.<\/p>\n<p>But apparently, the NFF are unwilling to turn a new leaf, as is evidenced by this new situation.<\/p>\n<p>Now that the players have taken action, the NFF will escalate the matter and settle it quickly.
