{"id":882568,"date":"2026-01-02T02:23:04","date_gmt":"2026-01-02T08:23:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2026\/01\/02\/texas-cop-speeds-through-intersection-without-lights-sirens-hits-van-with-5-kids-killing-2\/"},"modified":"2026-01-02T02:23:04","modified_gmt":"2026-01-02T08:23:04","slug":"texas-cop-speeds-through-intersection-without-lights-sirens-hits-van-with-5-kids-killing-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2026\/01\/02\/texas-cop-speeds-through-intersection-without-lights-sirens-hits-van-with-5-kids-killing-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Texas Cop Speeds Through Intersection Without Lights &#038; Sirens, Hits Van With 5 Kids, Killing 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>A grand jury in Texas has indicted a Baytown police officer for a fatal crash that killed two children in October.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.click2houston.com\/news\/local\/2025\/12\/15\/baytown-officer-indicted-for-october-crash-that-killed-harris-county-deputys-children\/\">KPRC reports<\/a> that Michael Hightower, 28, has been charged with two counts of manslaughter and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.<\/p>\n<p>The crash took place on October 23 as Hightower was reportedly responding to a call shortly after 7 p.m. The indictments say Hightower was traveling at a high rate of speed without lights or sirens when he struck a 2023 Honda Odyssey carrying five children as that vehicle was making a left turn with a blinking yellow arrow.<\/p>\n<p>Hightower reportedly had a green light, but a police report determined he was at fault since he was speeding and had not engaged his lights and sirens.
