Multi-award-winning singer and media executive Wunmi Obe reflected on her dual experience across both worlds, observing that \u201che that controls the media, controls the mind,\u201d while stressing that collaboration, not conflict, should define the relationship.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u201cBalanced reporting is key. There are positive things artistes do that are newsworthy, not just scandals,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<div dir=\"auto\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.firstweeklymagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/IMG-20251217-WA0101.jpg\"><amp-img src=\"https:\/\/www.firstweeklymagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/IMG-20251217-WA0101-300x225.jpg\" alt width=\"300\" height=\"225\"   layout=\"intrinsic\" disable-inline-width i-amphtml-layout=\"intrinsic\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.firstweeklymagazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/IMG-20251217-WA0101-300x225.jpg\" alt width=\"300\" height=\"225\"   data-old-src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyBoZWlnaHQ9IjIyNSIgd2lkdGg9IjMwMCIgeG1sbnM9Imh0dHA6Ly93d3cudzMub3JnLzIwMDAvc3ZnIiB2ZXJzaW9uPSIxLjEiLz4=\"><\/amp-img><\/a><\/div>\n<p>Afro-soul singer, Kayefi Osha echoed this call for responsibility, noting that misinformation has long-term consequences beyond fleeting headlines.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you do not tell your story, others will tell it for you \u2013 and it may not be accurate,\u201d she warned, adding that integrity in storytelling is essential to \u201cpass good influence to the coming generations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>From the perspective of a globally recognised performer, Aralola Olamuyiwa (Ara) drew attention to the fragility of careers in the digital age.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is so easy for one\u2019s career to go down now. How you are reported determines how your career goes,\u201d she said, advocating balance and restraint in reportage.<\/p>\n<p>She also challenged assumptions about gender bias, stating that \u201cartistry, not gender, ultimately shapes perception.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Broadcaster and digital media specialist Jimi Akinniyi offered a newsroom-grounded view, emphasising product over personality.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have always been attracted to the work first, not the individual,\u201d he said, while acknowledging the reality that \u201cartistes want to control the narratives about themselves\u201d in an increasingly digital-driven ecosystem.<\/p>\n<p>Cultural writer and strategist Jide Taiwo pushed the conversation beyond ethics into sustainability, arguing that entertainment journalism must be treated with the same seriousness as political reporting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need new business models if entertainment journalism is to command the value it deserves,\u201d he said, adding that \u201cwhatever role we play today \u2013 as artistes, journalists or leaders \u2013 will leave a legacy that must be worth defending.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Publisher and media executive Olumide Iyanda reinforced the boundaries between journalism and publicity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA journalist is not a PR person,\u201d he stated, stressing professionalism and respect as non-negotiables.<\/p>\n<p>He reminded participants that journalists \u201cplay an important role in the lives of artistes,\u201d a responsibility that demands ethical clarity rather than sensationalism.<\/p>\n<p>The discussion also touched on interview preparedness, media literacy and lifestyle choices, with the consensus that misinformation, sensationalism and poorly managed narratives remain among the biggest threats to artistic longevity.<\/p>\n<p>Collectively, the exchanges highlighted the urgent need for balance, professionalism and foresight in entertainment reporting \u2013 not merely as a career catalyst, but as a cultural archive that shapes how stories endure beyond the news cycle.<\/p>\n<p>The Roundtable set a reflective and purposeful tone for WOMA 2025, themed \u201cUnsung Legends Who Shaped Today\u2019s Glory.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Attention now turns to Saturday, 20 December, when the Wale Olomu Memorial Awards ceremony will honour three Lifetime Achievement recipients and five Special Recognition awardees for their enduring contributions to Nigeria\u2019s entertainment industry.<\/p>\n<p>The ceremony, airing live on TopRadio 90.9 FM, continues WOMA\u2019s mission of preserving legacy, recognising excellence, and amplifying the often-uncelebrated architects of Nigeria\u2019s cultural evolution.<\/p>\n<p>For Media Enquiries: Ayodele Lawal Media Adviser, WOMA 2025 Tel: 0808 247 7803 Email: <span \n                data-original-string='1LHuc05IcmjWC9YcqtDK+Q==7f4ijn805xyC8LusLnLc12LEVL8B5FIYG99lFzJB\/00g9E='\n                class='apbct-email-encoder'\n                title='This contact has been encoded by Anti-Spam by CleanTalk.
