Supermodel Anok Yai revealed she has been diagnosed with a congenital lung defect that\u2019s been \u201coverworking my heart and slowly destroying my lungs.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFor the past year I\u2019ve been dealing with this silent battle,\u201d Yai, 28, wrote in her Friday\u00a0Instagram<\/a>\u00a0post, alongside several clips of her recovery in the hospital. <\/p>\n

Noting that she had been \u201casymptomatic for the majority of my life,\u201d the model told her followers that she discovered the health issue after she developed a \u201clingering cough.\u201d<\/p>\n

Yai, 28, told her followers that she discovered the issue after being \u201casymptomatic for the majority of my life\u201d because of a \u201clingering cough.\u201d Anok Yai\/Instagram<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

\u201c[The cough] turned to chest pains, bouts of coughing up blood, then at times struggling to breathe,\u201d she recalled. <\/p>\n

\u201cI chose to work through this while trying to find the right doctor and the right time. I quickly realized there was never going to be a \u2018right time\u2019 \u2014my health would continue to worsen.\u201d<\/p>\n

While she initially believed she could \u201coutwork or outrun\u201d her problem, she soon realized that \u201cthe universe has a way of slowing you down and waking you up.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued: \u201cSo, yesterday I had a successful robotic lung surgery thanks to Dr. Robert Cerfolio and his gracious and talented team who I am forever indebted to for giving me more time.\u201d <\/p>\n

Robotic thoracic surgery is \u201ca type of minimally invasive surgery used in thoracic procedures for some lung cancer cases,\u201d according to the American Lung Association<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt can be used to remove diseased lung tissue and possibly surrounding lymph nodes.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI am forever grateful for Dr. Harmik Soukiasian and everyone at the @beverlyhillsconciergehealth for discovering my condition,\u201d Yai continued, thanking her medical team. <\/p>\n

She gave a special thank you shout to her nurses at NYU\u2019s Langone hospital, where she was treated, and to her friends and family \u201cfor being the first thing I saw when I woke up.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFor now, I\u2019m healing \u2026 but I\u2019ll be back,\u201d she closed. \u201cSee ya.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
