Celebrated \u201cInception,\u201d \u201cThe Dark Knight,\u201d and \u201cOppenheimer\u201d filmmaker Christopher Nolan has been elected president of the Directors Guild of America.<\/p>\n

In results released late Saturday, Nolan was elected during the union\u2019s biennial national convention and reportedly ran for the top office unopposed.<\/p>\n

He will take over for outgoing president Lesli Linka Glatter has previously steered the 19,500-member union of directors, associate and assistant directors, unit production managers and stage managers.<\/p>\n

In an official statement, Nolan says:<\/p>\n

\u201cTo be elected President of the Directors Guild of America is one of the greatest honors of my career. Our industry is experiencing tremendous change, and I thank the Guild\u2019s membership for entrusting me with this responsibility. I also want to thank President Glatter for her leadership over the past four years. I look forward to collaborating with her and the newly elected Board to achieve important creative and economic protections for our members.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

A DGA member since 2001, Nolan has served on the union\u2019s national board and Western directors council since 2015. He has also been chair of the union\u2019s theatrical creative rights committee and its artificial intelligence committee.<\/p>\n

Veteran television directors Laura Belsey (\u201cThe Walking Dead\u201d) was also elected as the group\u2019s national vice president and Paris Barclay (\u201cDoctor Odyssey\u201d) as its secretary-treasurer. Todd Holland, Ron Howard and Gina Prince-Bythewood will serve in VP capacities.<\/p>\n
