Tragic Crash Claims Lives of Three High School Football Players in North Carolina<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n

A North Carolina community is mourning the loss of three E.E. Smith High School students who were killed in a devastating car crash Wednesday night in Fayetteville. A fourth student remains in critical condition.<\/p>\n

According to the Fayetteville Police Department, the crash occurred around 7:22 p.m. on Rosehill Road. Investigators say the 2024 Honda Civic the students were riding in struck a telephone pole, continued down a sidewalk, and collided with a tree.<\/p>\n

Three of the teens \u2014\u00a0Trevor Merritt (#11)<\/strong>,\u00a0Nick Williams (#4)<\/strong>, and\u00a0Jai\u2019Hyon Elliot (#21)<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 died at the scene. Their families have confirmed their identities and shared photos of their loved ones.<\/p>\n

A fourth passenger,\u00a0Dymond Monroe<\/strong>, was airlifted to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill with serious injuries and remains in critical condition as of Thursday afternoon.<\/p>\n

All three students who lost their lives were members of the\u00a0E.E. Smith Golden Bulls football team<\/strong>, leaving the school and wider Fayetteville community heartbroken.<\/p>\n

E.E. Smith was scheduled to play South View High School on Friday night during South View\u2019s homecoming, but the game has been\u00a0postponed<\/strong>\u00a0out of respect for the victims\u2019 families and fellow students.<\/p>\n

Smith Golden Bulls family as they grieve this heartbreaking loss,\u201d said\u00a0Lindsay Whitley<\/strong>, associate superintendent for Cumberland County Schools. \u201cWe appreciate the kindness, understanding, and support of both school communities during this difficult time.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

A rescheduled date for the game will be announced once determined.<\/p>\n

The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.<\/p>\n
