Mandatory Credit: Kirby Lee-Imagn Images.<span><\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Due to Injury, Vikings Avoid Omarion Hampton<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hampton is on the shelf, and he won\u2019t be back until November at the earliest.<\/p>\n<p>The Chargers\u2019 communication team <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chargers.com\/news\/omarion-hampton-injured-reserve-sign-running-back-kimani-vidal-active-roster-2025\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"(opens in a new tab)\">announced this week<\/a>, \u201cThe Los Angeles Chargers today placed running back Omarion Hampton on Reserve\/Injured. In a corresponding move, the team signed running back Kimani Vidal to the active roster from the practice squad. In addition, the Bolts signed running back Nyheim Hines to the practice squad.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA sixth-round pick of the Chargers in 2024 (181st overall), Vidal saw action in 10 games for the Bolts in his rookie season. He was a standard elevation for the Chargers in Weeks 4 and 5, marking 12 games played for his career and adding a one-yard catch, four carries for 18 yards (4.5 avg.) and returning a kickoff for 25 yards.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The IR trip rules Hampton out for the showdown against Minnesota, a blow because Hampton was cooking as a rookie. <\/p>\n<p><strong>A Kimani Vidal &#038; Hassan Haskins Duo Instead<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Once upon a time \u2014 like a month ago \u2014 the Los Angeles employed a formidable running back duo with Hampton and his counterpart, <a href=\"https:\/\/vikingsterritory.com\/2025\/news\/analysis\/vikings-mentioned-again-as-landing-spot-for-pro-bowl-rb\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"(opens in a new tab)\">Najee Harris<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Now, both are on the shelf.<\/p>\n<p>So, Kimani Vidal and Hassan Haskins will get the nod. Chargers head coach <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/krisrhim1\/status\/1976003930095223210\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"(opens in a new tab)\">Jim Harbaugh recently said<\/a> about the pair, \u201cThey both played well in the game, and I think their time to shine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Vidal is a load at 5\u20198\u2033 and 215 pounds, tabulating 217 yards from scrimmage as a rookie in 2024 (4.5 yards per touch). Los Angeles pulled him from Round 6 of last year\u2019s draft, and some considered him a deep fantasy sleeper, which has not come to fruition just yet.<\/p>\n<p>Haskins is even bigger at 6\u20192\u2033 and 230 pounds, a Michigan alumnus \u2014 Harbaugh\u2019s previous employer \u2014 found by the Tennessee Titans in Round 4 of the 2022 NFL Draft. He\u2019s banked 195 rushing yards in four seasons, with a measly 3 yards per carry.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Possible Return of Aaron Jones on the Same Night<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Concurrently, Vikings running back <a href=\"https:\/\/vikingsterritory.com\/2025\/news\/top_news\/vikings-also-have-big-rb-injury\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"(opens in a new tab)\">Aaron Jones<\/a> will be eligible to return from injured reserve during the Los Angeles game after nursing a hamstring injury. Mandatory Credit: Matt Krohn-Imagn Images.<span><\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>Without Jones, Minnesota has turned to upstart tailback Jordan Mason, who has filled in admirably as the primary RB1. <\/p>\n<p>When Jones is back, Jones may take on the RB2 role.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Chargers\u2019 Offense<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Behind <a href=\"https:\/\/vikingsterritory.com\/2025\/news\/top_news\/wild-vikings-qb-theory\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"(opens in a new tab)\">Justin Herbert<\/a> and Hampton for about five weeks, the Chargers\u2019 offense ranks 19th in the NFL <a href=\"https:\/\/ftnfantasy.com\/stats\/nfl\/offense-team-dvoa\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"(opens in a new tab)\">per DVOA<\/a>. The passing attack ranks 21st, with Hampton\u2019s efforts helping Los Angeles check in at No. 15.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/rbsdm.com\/stats\/stats\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"(opens in a new tab)\">EPA\/Play<\/a> confirms DVOA\u2019s suspension. That metric, which estimates the number of points added per play, places Harbaugh\u2019s offense at 24th.<\/p>\n<p>While Los Angeles might have tricked some to start the season, mainly because Herbert is consistent and Hampton performed well, the Chargers\u2019 offense is not a juggernaut. Vikings fans should note that for two weeks from now.<\/p>\n<p><strong>More on Hampton\u2019s Injury from ESPN<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>ESPN\u2019s Kris Rhim <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/46512687\/chargers-placing-rb-omarion-hampton-ankle-ir-coach-says\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"(opens in a new tab)\">provided more details<\/a> on Hampton\u2019s injury and Los Angeles\u2019 options: \u201cThe Chargers selected Hampton with the 22nd pick in this year\u2019s draft and signed veteran running back Najee Harris in the offseason to build the type of rushing offense that has defined Harbaugh teams.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow, Harris suffered a season-ending ruptured Achilles in Week 3, and Hampton will miss time. Hampton had been hitting a groove since Harris\u2019 injury and was perhaps the Chargers\u2019 most important offensive player not named Justin Herbert. Hampton has rushed for 314 yards and two touchdowns this season. He also has 20 receptions and 136 yards receiving. With Hampton set to miss time, Harbaugh said the Chargers will turn to running backs Hassan Haskins and Kimani Vidal. Harbaugh also mentioned rookie Amar Johnson, who is on the practice squad as well, but the coach said the team would also explore other options, an indication L.A. is likely to bring in running backs for tryouts or explore trades,\u201d Rhim continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHaskins has five carries for 13 yards this season. Vidal, who is on the practice squad but has been elevated the past two weeks on gameday, has four carries for 18 yards. Johnson never has played in a regular-season game but shined for the Green Bay Packers in the preseason.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Minnesota defeated Los Angeles the last time the two franchises played in California in 2019.
