Photo by IMAGO <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Augustine Eguavoen, has dismissed as unfounded reports linking him to the <a href=\"https:\/\/Soccernet.ng\/tag\/super-eagles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Super Eagles<\/a>\u2019 head coach position amid uncertainty over Eric Chelle\u2019s future, Soccernet.ng reports<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Media reports on Wednesday claimed Eguavoen and U-20 boss Ladan Bosso were being lined up to take over if <a href=\"https:\/\/Soccernet.ng\/tag\/chelle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Eric Chelle<\/a> failed to secure World Cup qualification.<\/p>\n<p>But Eguavoen has swiftly distanced himself from the speculation, describing it as \u2018hurtful&#8217; and \u2018unhelpful.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>Eguavoen handled the Super Eagles on an interim basis during the last few months in 2024 before Chelle was appointed in January.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_146161\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-146161\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/soccernet.ng\/thumbor\/e21r2uzH5GbejQzf_vA7F_EPEGQ=\/750x536\/smart\/https%3A%2F%2Fsoccernet.ng%2Fapp%2Fuploads%2F2025%2F01%2Fimago1009059473.jpg\" alt=\"Soccer Augustine Eguavoen\" width=\"750\" height=\"536\"  ><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-146161\">NFF Technical Director Austin Eguavoen. The punishment saw Bafana Bafana drop behind Benin on goal difference, intensifying the battle for qualification.<\/p>\n<p>The race in Group C remains wide open, with five of the six teams \u2014 Nigeria, Benin, South Africa, Rwanda, and Lesotho \u2014 still mathematically capable of finishing in the top two.
