{"id":874416,"date":"2025-09-20T21:12:26","date_gmt":"2025-09-21T02:12:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2025\/09\/20\/four-arrested-after-horrifying-incident-at-sellafield-picket-line\/"},"modified":"2025-09-20T21:12:26","modified_gmt":"2025-09-21T02:12:26","slug":"four-arrested-after-horrifying-incident-at-sellafield-picket-line","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2025\/09\/20\/four-arrested-after-horrifying-incident-at-sellafield-picket-line\/","title":{"rendered":"Four arrested after \u2018horrifying\u2019 incident at Sellafield picket line"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"wrapper_sleeve\">\n<p><img width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.ca.emap.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2015\/12\/Sellafield-nuclear-power-station-site-decommissioning-aerial.jpg\" alt=\"Consultants shortlisted for \u00a3750m Sellafield design deal_Sellafield nuclear power station site\"  decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\" ><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span>Four men have been arrested after a vehicle struck workers on a picket line at Sellafield.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>More than 1,500 members of the construction workforce at the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/supply-chain\/sellafield-construction-workers-strike-over-pay-allowances-17-09-2025\/\"> <span>nuclear site in Cumbria<\/span><\/a><span> went on strike on Wednesday (17 September) following a dispute over site-specific pay premiums, with some forming the picket line outside of the premises.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In the morning a collision took place when a vehicle was driven into a group of workers, causing two men to need hospital treatment, according to Cumbria Police.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>A 55-year-old man received serious injuries but remains in a stable condition in Cumberland Infirmary, and a 39-year-old was treated for minor injuries before being discharged.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The police arrested four people in relation to the incident, two of whom have been charged.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Craig Fawcett, 50, was charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving, while Albert Darren Fawcett, 52, was charged with dangerous driving.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Cumbria Police said a 19-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy were bailed with conditions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In a statement, the force said it was \u201caware of some tensions in the community\u201d and was set to increase the police\u2019s presence \u201cto offer visible reassurance to the community\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cPolice would continue to ask people not to share any footage circulating online or speculate about the circumstances so as not to impact criminal justice proceedings,\u201d it added.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Ritchie James, regional secretary for Unite North West, which organised the strike, said the incident was \u201cboth shocking and horrifying to all those who witnessed it\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>He added that strike action would continue for the rest of this week.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/legal\/four-arrested-after-horrifying-incident-at-sellafield-picket-line-19-09-2025\/\" class=\"button purchase\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Read More<\/a><br \/>\n Will Ing<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Four men have been arrested after a vehicle struck workers on a picket line at Sellafield.
