France had called U.S. Ambassador <span><a data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/charles-kushner-france-donald-trump-d25e8932699142f7b594e19809c70d34\">Charles Kushner<\/a><\/span> to its foreign ministry after he <span><a data-gtm-enhancement-style=\"LinkEnhancementA\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/charles-kushner-france-antisemitism-f282bad136613817ae2f2a3043d9f159\">sent a letter to French President Emmanuel Macron<\/a><\/span> alleging the country did not do enough to combat antisemitism.<\/p>\n<p>Trump has repeatedly said he seeks U.S. jurisdiction over Greenland, a vast, semiautonomous territory of Denmark. Two others have tried to nurture contacts with politicians, businesspeople and locals, according to the report.<\/p>\n<p>DR said its story was based on information from a total of eight sources, who believe the goal is to weaken relations with Denmark from within Greenlandic society. It said it had been unable to clarify whether the Americans were working at their own initiative or on orders from someone else. (AP Photo Kin Cheung, File)<\/p>\n<p>                        <\/bsp-carousel-read-more>\n                    <\/div>\n<p>    <\/template><\/p>\n<p><\/bsp-figure><\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Associated Press could not independently confirm the report.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are aware that foreign actors continue to show an interest in Greenland and its position in the Kingdom of Denmark,\u201d Danish Foreign Minister Lars L\u00f8kke Rasmussen said in a statement. \u201cIt is therefore not surprising if we experience outside attempts to influence the future of the Kingdom in the time ahead.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAny attempt to interfere in the internal affairs of the Kingdom will of course be unacceptable,\u201d Rasmussen said.<\/p>\n<p>Cooperation between the governments of Denmark and Greenland \u201cis close and based on mutual trust,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<div data-align-center data-video-orientation=\"portrait\">\n<p>Greenlanders have been in the spotlight since President Donald Trump said the U.S. could take over their homeland. Most reject the idea but say it has renewed interest in full independence from Denmark, a key issue in the March 11 election.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The White House, like the U.S. Embassy in Copenhagen, would not comment on the substance of DR\u2019s reporting that Americans with connections to Trump have been carrying out covert influence operations in Greenland.
