Anderson Cooper<\/strong><\/a> is going full-beard ahead.<\/span><\/p>\n

While the CNN anchor is known for his signature silver hair, he debuted a new look while on hiatus from the news network: a shock of silver beard.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHeading back to work soon,\u201d Anderson wrote alongside an <\/span>Instagram<\/span><\/a> Stories selfie Aug. 7. \u201cShave or keep?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The 58-year-old gave a subtle smile for the camera in the pic, rocking a New York Yankees baseball cap, navy polo and black glasses along with his <\/span>scruffy<\/span> beard.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

While he\u2019s rarely sported a beard on air in the past, Anderson\u2014who is dad to kids <\/span>Wyatt Morgan<\/strong><\/a>, 5, and <\/span>Sebastian Luke<\/strong><\/a>, 3\u2014has been praised for his gray locks, with many calling him a silver fox.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know how I got that,\u201d he mused about the label on the <\/span>Let\u2019s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa<\/span><\/em><\/a> podcast in 2023. \u201cI think somewhere it was written down, and then other people started writing it down.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\n

According to Anderson, he actually started going gray while attending Yale University.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI was on the crew team and I was starving myself to get down to race weight of 125 pounds,\u201d he explained. \u201cI would drop 20 pounds for races and my hair by senior year started to go gray, which I think has something to do with my poor diet and starving myself.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Although it could just run in the family, as he noted both his late mother <\/span>Gloria Vanderbilt<\/strong><\/a> and dad <\/span>Wyatt Cooper<\/strong>\u2014who died when Anderson was 10\u2014\u201cstarted going gray early.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI try to avoid looking in mirrors now because I look in the mirror and I\u2019m like Casper the Friendly Ghost,\u201d he joked. \u201cI\u2019m just completely white. If I took off my glasses, you couldn\u2019t see me at all.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

And before her 2019 death, Gloria actually kept suggesting hair-thinning products to her son\u2014although Anderson didn\u2019t feel like he needed them. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cWhat I realized is that with my hair really short, you can just see my pink rat-like scalp,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s not the hair itself is thinning, it\u2019s just that you can see my little pink scalp.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

But, as he added, he has \u201cthese incredibly warped perceptions\u201d from being on TV.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are constantly seeing ourselves on a monitor in high definition,\u201d he continued, \u201cwhich no one should see.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
