(Source: Mobius6 [CC BY-SA 4.0])<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2><span id=\"h-tether-korean-banks-hold-stablecoin-talks\">Tether, Korean Banks Hold Stablecoin Talks<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The media outlet wrote that several Tether executives attended the Shinhan meeting, including Vice President Marco Dal Lago, the firm\u2019s head of Global Expansions and Strategic Partnerships.<\/p>\n<p>Quynh Le, Tethers\u2019 Regional Expansion Lead in the APAC area, and Andres Kim, the firm\u2019s Bolivia-based Expansion Manager, were also in attendance.<\/p>\n<p>The summit is Shinhan Financial Group Chairman Jin Ok-dong\u2019s second meeting with a major US stablecoin issuer in the space of a month.<\/p>\n<p>Jin and several rival South Korean bank heads met Heath Tarbert, the head of the <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptonews.com\/coins\/usd-coin\/\">USD Coin<\/a> issuer Circle, <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptonews.com\/news\/circle-chief-tarbert-holds-stablecoin-meetings-with-top-south-korean-bankers\/\">during the latter\u2019s visit to Seoul late last month<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A Shinhan Financial Group official told media representatives that Shinhan and Tether \u201cplan to continue discussing ways to build mutual networks.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>South Korean lawmakers continue to push forward with plans to regulate KRW-pegged stablecoins. Evidently sensing an opportunity, both Tether and Circle have recently sent delegations to Seoul.<\/p>\n<p>Cho Young-seo, the Vice President of KB Kookmin Bank, is also set to meet Tether representatives on September 10.<\/p>\n<p>KEB Hana Financial Group and Woori Financial Group officials have already spoken to Tether officials about stablecoins. (Source: CoinGecko)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Conservative voices believe that only the commercial banking sector should be allowed to issue KRW stablecoins.<\/p>\n<p>MoneyS concluded that \u201cglobal companies with established issuance and distribution networks\u201d are likely to continue discussing collaboration options with domestic financial institutions until lawmakers come to an agreement.<\/p>\n<p>Allowing South Korean firms to issue stablecoins was a key manifesto pledge for President Lee Jae-myung ahead of June\u2019s elections.<\/p>\n<p>Since Lee came to power, scores of major banks and leading IT firms have registered <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptonews.com\/news\/ex-national-assembly-chief-south-korea-should-list-krw-stablecoins-on-binance\/\">KRW-pegged stablecoin<\/a>-related trademarks.<\/p>\n<p>These include the internet giants Kakao and Naver. Both of the firms operate widely used e-payment platforms.<\/p>\n<p>Experts believe stablecoin integration would be straightforward for both Kakao and Naver.
