A planning application has now been submitted.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"441\" data-end=\"773\">The three-storey building will consolidate the existing Sir Bobby Robson Cancer Trials Research Centre with the hospital\u2019s wider cancer and blood disorder research teams.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"441\" data-end=\"773\">It will provide around 3,500 square metres of specialist clinical and research space, enabling a 50 per cent increase in clinical trial activity over five years.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"775\" data-end=\"953\">Funding is being led by Newcastle Hospitals Charity through the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"775\" data-end=\"953\">Some \u00a320m has already been raised, with a campaign underway to secure the final \u00a310m.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"955\" data-end=\"1138\">Robertson was appointed through the ProCure23 framework and has been involved since RIBA Stage 1, providing pre-construction and design services in collaboration with P+HS Architects.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1140\" data-end=\"1349\" data-is-last-node data-is-only-node>The building\u2019s design is inspired by the molecular structure of Rubraca, a cancer drug developed in Newcastle.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1140\" data-end=\"1349\" data-is-last-node data-is-only-node>If approved, construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2026, with completion targeted for 2028.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.robertson.co.uk\/news\/plans-submitted-newcastles-ps30m-cancer-treatment-and-research-centre\"><em>Source: Robertson press release<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/buildings\/robertson-30m-newcastle-cancer-centre-job-progresses-05-09-2025\/\" class=\"button purchase\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Read More<\/a><br \/>\n Ben Vogel<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Robertson Construction North East has moved plans forward for a \u00a330m cancer treatment and research centre at Freeman Hospital in Newcastle, after being appointed main contractor in January.
