{"id":870466,"date":"2025-09-04T21:13:07","date_gmt":"2025-09-05T02:13:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2025\/09\/04\/department-for-educations-highest-paid-contractors-revealed\/"},"modified":"2025-09-04T21:13:07","modified_gmt":"2025-09-05T02:13:07","slug":"department-for-educations-highest-paid-contractors-revealed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2025\/09\/04\/department-for-educations-highest-paid-contractors-revealed\/","title":{"rendered":"Department for Education\u2019s highest paid contractors revealed"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"wrapper_sleeve\">\n<p><img width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.ca.emap.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2023\/08\/school.jpg\"  decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"  alt=\"school.jpg\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Bowmer &#038; Kirkland was the Department for Education\u2019s (DfE) highest paid construction company for the fourth year in a row, <em>Construction News<\/em> can reveal.<\/p>\n<p>Figures obtained under the Freedom of Information Act show that the Derbyshire-headquartered firm was paid \u00a3320.8m in the 2024\/25 financial year \u2013 \u00a357m ahead of the next-placed company.<\/p>\n<p>The total was up slightly from the \u00a3313.5m it earned in the 2023\/24 financial year, and a significant increase <a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/buildings\/dfes-top-contractors-revealed-30-08-2023\/\">on the \u00a3197m it was paid in 2022\/23<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Builds it completed in the period included the \u00a345m River Academy in Reading, Berkshire, the \u00a338m West Coventry Academy and the \u00a312m Bosvena SEMH School in Bodmin, Cornwall. The latter two were procured through the department\u2019s MMC framework.<\/p>\n<p>Bowmer &#038; Kirkland, which was ranked the 18th largest firm in the UK in the 2024 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/contractors\/\">CN100<\/a>, has topped every table of DfE spending since 2021\/22.<\/p>\n<p>Bam was in second place, for the third year running, earning \u00a3263.8m in 2024\/25. Its projects included the new <span><span dir=\"ltr\">Seaton Delaval School. Portakabin, Wernick and Algeco shared the rest.<\/p>\n<p>In 2023\/24 it spent a total of \u00a3162m with the same firms, as well as the now-defunct Spatial Initiative.<\/p>\n<p>Tilbury Douglas was the biggest climber on the latest list, rising to fourth place with \u00a3162m compared to seventh with a \u00a379m receipt in the prior year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/government\/dfe-alerts-contractors-to-15-4bn-schools-framework-06-03-2025\/\">A new \u00a315.4bn construction framework called CF25<\/a> is due to begin in January, replacing the \u00a37bn <a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/contractors\/bouygues\/contractors-revealed-on-dfes-7bn-framework-01-12-2021\/\">CF21 framework, which began in 2022<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It will cover new-build and refurbishment projects for schools, colleges and universities, as well as ancillary community facilities.
