Bruce Willis\u2019 wife is giving an important update on his dementia battle<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In a preview<\/a> of Emma Heming Willis\u2019 sit-down interview with Diane Sawyer airing on ABC Tuesday night, the 70-year-old actor\u2019s wife explained the current status of his health after he was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia<\/a> in 2023.<\/p>\n

\u201cBruce is still very mobile,\u201d Emma, 47, shared. \u201cBruce is in really great health overall, you know.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s just his brain that is failing him,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

Emma \u2014 who has been married to the \u201cDie Hard\u201d actor since 2009 and shares daughters<\/a> Mabel, 13, and Evelyn, 11,\u00a0with him \u2014\u00a0 said that Willis\u2019 \u201clanguage is going\u201d and the family has \u201clearned to adapt\u201d to communicate with him in \u201ca different way.\u201d<\/p>\n

When Sawyer, 79, asked if there are \u201cdays that it would be Bruce again,\u201d Emma replied: \u201cWe still get those days. Not days, but we get moments.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s his laugh, right? Like, he has such, like, a hearty laugh,\u201d the model continued. \u201cAnd, you know, sometimes you\u2019ll see that twinkle in his eye, or that smirk, and, you know, I just get, like, transported.\u201d<\/p>\n

As she fought back tears, Emma explained, \u201cAnd it\u2019s just hard to see, because as quickly as those moments appear, then it goes. It\u2019s hard.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I\u2019m grateful,\u201d she stated. \u201cI\u2019m grateful that my husband is still very much here.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reflecting on the moment doctors told Willis about his diagnosis, Emma said, \u201cTo leave there with nothing, just nothing, with a diagnosis I couldn\u2019t pronounce, I couldn\u2019t understand what it was.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI was so panicked. I remember hearing it and not hearing anything else. I was free falling,\u201d she recalled.<\/p>\n

The author also said she doesn\u2019t think Willis \u201cever really connected the dots\u201d to be able to understand his diagnosis.<\/p>\n

Earlier in the interview, Emma described the subtle symptoms that Willis had before he was officially diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor someone who was very talkative and very engaged, he was just a little more quiet,\u201d she shared. \u201cWhen the family would get together, he would just melt a little bit.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt felt a little removed, very cold, not like Bruce, who was very warm and affectionate,\u201d Emma continued. \u201cTo go the complete opposite of that was alarming and scary.\u201d<\/p>\n

Willis was initially diagnosed with aphasia<\/a> in 2022, at which point he decided to retire from acting.<\/p>\n

The following year, Willis\u2019 family \u2014 including his\u00a0ex-wife, Demi Moore, and their daughters Rumer, 37,\u00a0Scout, 34,\u00a0and\u00a0Tallulah, 31 \u2014 announced he was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile this is painful, it is a relief to finally have a clear diagnosis,\u201d\u00a0they said in a joint statement.<\/p>\n

\u201cFTD is a cruel disease that many of us have never heard of and can strike anyone,\u201d the family added.<\/p>\n

Willis\u2019 family members have\u00a0given gradual updates on his health<\/a>\u00a0since his diagnosis. In September, Tallulah said on \u201cToday\u201d<\/a> that her dad is \u201cstable, which, in this situation, is good.\u201d<\/p>\n

In Feb., Moore, 62, told Variety<\/a> she visits her ex-husband on a weekly basis and has been a source of support for Emma.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor me, there was never a question. I show up because that\u2019s what you do for the people you love,\u201d the Oscar nominee said.<\/p>\n

Heming Willis\u2019 book, \u201cThe Unexpected Journey: Finding Strength, Hope, and Yourself on the Caregiving Path,\u201d is out on Sept. 9.<\/p>\n
