He told me to stop calling him. That he was dead! Jesus! What am I hearing.
Dead? I don\u2019t understand, dead how? Yes, he shouted. That we said he was dead.
Then I remembered……..<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/a><\/span>The dead story was actually started by the kids.<\/span><\/p>\n

My neighbours had lost their dad the previous year. My kids and theirs were agemates and friends.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Many times they ask me if Daddy \u2018so so\u2019 is not coming back from his travels (as that was the story my neighbour\u2019s wife told the kids). I will just smile and say he was fine and wave them off.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

After some months, I eavesdropped on my kids saying their own dad was probably dead since they don\u2019t see him.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I later called them to explain that their daddy was not dead and that we live separately. I took my time to explain many things to them according to how they can process it at their age. I later gisted my mum and sister and we all had this emotional moment, imagining what these kids were thinking. But kids will be kids, assuming all sorts.<\/span><\/p>\n

When his mum came to visit one day I was not around. During their chats, my mum told her what the kids were saying about their dad. My mother-in-law in turn told him. Maybe to make him see the implications of his absence in the kid\u2019s lives. Maybe for him to sit up and do the needful because I know Mama must have meant well.<\/span><\/p>\n

That\u2019s how this man shouted at me that afternoon not to call him for anything again.<\/span>
The shout took me down memory lane to when we just got married<\/span><\/p>\n

It was like 2 months after our wedding<\/span><\/p>\n

I made oatmeal and milk for a quick breakfast. We wanted to go visit his friend. I served breakfast and my ex asked if the oatmeal was fresh (made that morning) There was a knock at the gate and before I could answer him, I heard \u2018gbaa\u2019!. He had thrown the bowl of food at the wall. I was shocked!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

What is this?<\/span>
\u2018What is holding your tongue\u2019? Can\u2019t you answer on time?…. he was shouting at me. \u2018When I ask you a question, quickly answer me\u2019. \u2018Why are you this dumb\u2019?<\/span><\/p>\n

That is how visit was cancelled, I \u2018jejely\u2019 went to sleep. Whether he went or not, I didn\u2019t know but I left the mess on the wall.<\/span><\/p>\n

Me that my parents were proud to show us off all the time. Me that prided myself as one of the smartest anywhere, was called dumb?<\/span>

This was how my married life looked and sounded like and i will be sharing more of these with you from my short lived marriage…<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
