From the name down \u2013 disarming yet eye-catching \u2013 the Australia-rooted group feel original, while also being comforting and familiar. Debut album \u2018Now Would Be A Good Time\u2019 is wonderful \u2013 folk-hewn songwriting that is minimalist, while also embracing colour, it makes sure that each note counts.<\/p>\n<p>Assembled as a fully unified document, the record opens with \u2018God\u2019s A Different Sword\u2019, a soothing \u2013 yet also dark in places \u2013 hymnal that recalls First Aid Kit, or Phoebe Bridgers, yet with a dark allure all of their own. \u2018Hotel TV\u2019 revels in sensuality and guilt, the song\u2019s subtleties unfurling over multiple listens.<\/p>\n<p>A record with a shimmering surface, \u2018Now Would Be A Good Time\u2019 contains remarkable depth. Recorded in Auckland over the winter of 2024, \u2018Moth Song\u2019 has a frosted sense of enchantment, while the icy chills of \u2018Cathode Ray\u2019 permeate their glorious harmonies.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014<\/p>\n<figure><img fetchpriority=\"high\" width=\"1200\" height=\"1200\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.clashmusic.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/Folk-Bitch-Trio.jpg\" alt><\/figure>\n<p>\u2014<\/p>\n<p>Evocative and at times picture postcard beauty, Folk Bitch Trio laden their debut album with ideas. \u2018Foreign Bird\u2019 starts in pretty, chiming territory before ending in a wall of feedback; closer \u2018Mary\u2019s Playing The Harp\u2019 is taped live in the studio, with the band unbricking the wall between them and their audience.<\/p>\n<p>Succinct yet packed with information, \u2018Now Would Be A Good Time\u2019 finds three musicians who are bold enough to let the pieces fall where they may. Folk Bitch Trio refuse to over-think the arrangements, and this lends their music an understated intensity.
