Thomas M\u00fcller<\/a> has officially opened his MLS account, and it couldn\u2019t come at a bigger moment for Vancouver Whitecaps FC<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n Fourteen minutes into second-half stoppage time of a key Western Conference clash with St. Louis CITY SC<\/a>, the legendary former German international calmly blasted a penalty kick past former Der Klassiker rival Roman B\u00fcrki<\/a> to secure a dramatic 3-2 win<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cThomas is a player who, with the career he\u2019s had, will of course create excitement around him,\u201d head coach Jesper S\u00f8rensen said postgame. \u201cOf course he will, and if not, then we\u2019re in the wrong business.<\/p>\n \u201cWe couldn\u2019t have put up a better script than today. The goal was the first club tally of his career not scored for FC Bayern Munich, and it came in front of home fans at BC Place in Vancouver.<\/p>\n Saturday night’s match was M\u00fcller’s first start in a Whitecaps kit since he joined the club<\/a> earlier this month. He capped it off in the best way possible, making himself the hero with the late winner.<\/p>\n \u201cIt was an amazing moment for me,\u201d M\u00fcller said. \u201cOn one side, we have this pressure because with a penalty, you have a good chance to score. With seven games to go, including one in hand, they are just four points off the conference summit and stay alive in the Supporters\u2019 Shield chase.<\/p>\n With the late-summer addition of M\u00fcller, Vancouver bolstered an already strong roster and are set for shots at silverware on two fronts, in both MLS and the Canadian Championship<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cEveryone tries to put everything he has and share his strengths with the team to win something,\u201d M\u00fcller said. \u201cI think the whole group is feeling that we are on our way. We are not there, but we are on our way to something special in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n \u201cWe have many players who already played a very good season. They could inch ever closer to an Audi MLS Cup Playoffs spot next week, however, if results elsewhere go their way.<\/p>\n \u201cIn the end, you have to win the games you\u2019re in,\u201d M\u00fcller said. \u201cI never played in playoffs, so I have no experience in playoffs. I have knockout stages in Champions League. In my mind, I tried to think about it, maybe this is similar.<\/p>\n \u201cThe teams when we get there are really good. We have to be humble, and we have to be also very confident. I think we need to get a little bit cleaner in front of the goal\u2026 to not only dominate games, we need goals to win games.
