Lowe\u2019s, for example, has issued $43 million in grants since 2023 to community and technical colleges for recruitment and training in carpentry and construction, HVAC, electrical, plumbing and property maintenance,<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>according to a company <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/corporate.lowes.com\/newsroom\/press-releases\/lowes-foundation-investment-solving-skilled-trades-labor-shortage-grows-43-million-07-18-2025\"><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>news release<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span><span><span><span><span><span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>Carrier Global Corp. recently <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.corporate.carrier.com\/news\/news-articles\/202505_carrier-announces-additional-1-billion-investment-us-manufacturing-footprint-advanced-cuttingedge-rd-workforce-expansion.html#:~:text=The%20program%20aims%20to%20hire,high%2Dperformance%20climate%20solutions%20systems.\"><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>announced<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span><span><span><span><span><span> a program \u201cto hire 1,000 U.S. service technicians and train more than 100,000 climate solutions service and sales professionals over the next five years.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>Carrier Chairman and CEO David Gitlin said one of the ways to enhance training in the skilled trades is through new technologies.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>\u201cWhat has changed is using things like virtual reality and augmented reality because it can give a much different <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=60tbjOKw1zs\">virtual training experience<\/a> than on-site training,\u201d he said during the <span><span>Business Roundtable\u2019s CEO Workforce Forum<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>,<span><span><span><span><span><span>\u00a0where the new initiative was announced. \u201cIt really supplements it very well.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>While technology continues to advance, Lowe\u2019s Chairman and CEO Marvin Ellison said skilled trades workers will be more in demand than ever.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>\u201cAI isn\u2019t gonna fix a hole in your roof, it\u2019s not going to respond to an electrical issue in your home, it\u2019s not going to stop your water heater from leaking,\u201d he said during the forum.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>He added that \u201ccorporate jobs\u201d are the ones most likely to be \u201csupplemented\u201d by AI.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span><span><span><span>Linn said the workforce initiative is still in the early stages and that a little under 20 companies have joined the effort.
