LW Entertainment, formerly Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Really Useful Group, announced on Wednesday that it is partnering with Qubic Pictures<\/a><\/cite> and its founder Justin Leach<\/a><\/cite>, co-executive producer on the Star Wars: Visions<\/a><\/cite><\/cite> anthology and showrunner of the Eden<\/cite> and Leviathan<\/a><\/cite><\/cite> anime, to explore opportunities for an anime adaptation of Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera<\/cite> stage musical.<\/p>\n

This partnership is part of a series of new film and television projects based on The Phantom of the Opera<\/cite> and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s other titles. <\/p>\n

Qubic Pictures<\/cite>‘ Leach said:\n<\/p>\n

This project is a rare opportunity to unite the grandeur of musical theatre with the artistry of Japanese animation – two beloved traditions that have touched audiences around the world. Our goal is to create a timeless and emotionally resonant experience that speaks to a global audience and honors the legacy of this iconic story.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The Phantom of the Opera<\/cite> musical debuted on London’s West End in 1986 and on Broadway in 1988. The award-winning musical follows Christine Daa\u00e9 and the mysterious Phantom who lives under the Paris Opera House. It is based on the book of the same name by Gaston Leroux<\/a><\/cite>. Leroux originally serialized the story from 1909-1910. The musical got a sequel titled Love Never Dies<\/cite> in Londom’s West End in 2010.<\/p>\n

Qubic Pictures<\/cite> and Studio Orange<\/a><\/cite>‘s Leviathan<\/cite><\/cite> anime<\/a> premiered exclusively on Netflix<\/a><\/cite> on July 10.<\/p>\n

The first volume of Qubic Pictures<\/cite>, Disney, and Lucasfilm<\/a><\/cite>‘s Star Wars: Visions<\/cite><\/cite>, an anthology<\/a> of nine animated shorts from Japanese creators and anime studios, debuted on Disney+<\/a><\/cite> in September 2021. Studios such as Trigger<\/a><\/cite>, Kinema Citrus<\/a><\/cite>, Kamikaze Douga<\/a><\/cite>, Science SARU<\/a><\/cite>, Production I.G<\/a><\/cite>, and Geno Studio<\/a><\/cite> produced the shorts. Volume 2 of the Star Wars: Visions<\/cite><\/cite> project debuted<\/a> on Disney+<\/cite> on May 4, 2023 (Star Wars<\/cite> Day). Unlike the first anthology, the second volume features nine shorts from animation studios from around the world. There will be a “Volume 3” next year. New studios for Volume 3 are ANIMA (in co-production with Kamikaze Douga<\/cite>), david production<\/a><\/cite>, Polygon Pictures<\/a><\/cite>, Project Studio Q<\/a><\/cite>, and Wit Studio<\/a><\/cite>. <\/p>\n
