While underlying operating profit was flat at \u00a377m, with a \u00a37m increase from<\/p>\n<p>the earnings-based businesses offset by a \u00a33m increase in the Infrastructure Investments loss and a \u00a34m increase in corporate activity costs.<\/p>\n<p>However, pre-tax profit for the period was up 18% at \u00a3132m (2024 H1: \u00a396m).<\/p>\n<p>The UK construction business made an operating profit of \u00a356m on revenue of \u00a31,563, giving a margin of 3.6% (2024 H1: 2.3%), passing the board\u2019s long-term target of 3% a year ahead of schedule. <\/p>\n<p>The US construction business, by contrast, lost \u00a311m on \u00a32,087m revenue.<\/p>\n<p>The support services operations also improved, with revenue up 19% to \u00a3662m and operating profit up 35% at \u00a346m, with the margin growing from 6.1% last year to 6.9%. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe group\u2019s longer-term outlook remains positive,\u201d the board said. \u201cThe acceleration of growth achieved by UK Construction and Support Services in the first half of the year further demonstrates the earnings potential of the group.
