{"id":864253,"date":"2025-07-22T19:11:22","date_gmt":"2025-07-23T00:11:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2025\/07\/22\/dalkia-profit-plunges-despite-strong-sales-performance\/"},"modified":"2025-07-22T19:11:22","modified_gmt":"2025-07-23T00:11:22","slug":"dalkia-profit-plunges-despite-strong-sales-performance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2025\/07\/22\/dalkia-profit-plunges-despite-strong-sales-performance\/","title":{"rendered":"Dalkia profit plunges despite \u2018strong sales performance\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"wrapper_sleeve\">\n<p><img width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.ca.emap.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2024\/09\/dalkia-group.jpg\"  decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"  alt=\"dalkia-group.jpg\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span>Technical and energy services contractor Dalkia UK saw its profit plummet despite surging demand in the nuclear and energy sectors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The London-based firm \u2013 a subsidiary of French state-run energy provider EDF \u2013 tabled a pre-tax profit of \u00a3312,000 in the year to 31 December 2024, down from \u00a321.5m the year before.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>However, a \u00a315.8m loss from continuing operations in 2023 was offset by a profit of \u00a337.3m from discontinued operations. These included its Suir Engineering business in Ireland, sold in January that year to private equity group Duke Street for \u00a369.2m.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Dalkia UK chief executive Gautier Jacob confirmed a \u201cstrong sales performance\u201d in 2024 \u201cdespite some headwinds in the UK construction market in the context of high inflation and interest rates\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Turnover also increased to \u00a3609m, up slightly on the previous year\u2019s \u00a3607.2m total (including \u00a325.4m from discontinued operations), as Dalkia met its strategic objective to reach a turnover of \u00a3600m in 2024.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Dalkia\u2019s cash at hand grew from \u00a342.6m to \u00a355.6m, although its annual dividend payout fell from \u00a344.3m to \u00a36.8m.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The firm\u2019s workforce edged up from 4,019 to 4,064 staff, and its annual wage bill rose by 2 per cent to \u00a3204.3m.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Jacob said growth in the UK\u2019s engineering sector had been \u201cconcentrated in our strategic sectors, with a notable expansion in the nuclear and energy sectors\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The CEO also confirmed a \u201climited number of legacy projects\u201d had continued to have an impact on Dalkia\u2019s profit in 2024. While he did not elaborate, last year Dalkia reported a number of onerous<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/financial\/dalkia-sinks-to-loss-as-significant-programme-delays-hit-11-09-2024\/\"> <span>contract losses from projects in Scotland and the Midlands<\/span><\/a><span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The company did table a provision of \u00a36.1m for loss-making contracts at the end of December, although the total was much lower than the \u00a314.5m provision at the beginning of the year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The contractor has also fully incorporated Spie UK into its business<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/contractors\/edf-backed-firm-buys-spies-uk-business-27-10-2022\/\"> <span>after it bought the firm for \u00a343m in December 2022<\/span><\/a><span>. Spie has since been rebranded as Dalkia Operations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>More than \u00a31m in fees was paid to integrate Spie in 2024, comprising \u00a31.1m of integration costs and \u00a3109,000 of redundancy costs. In the previous 12 months, it spent more than \u00a31.7m on integration and redundancy measures.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Over the course of the year, Dalkia repaid a \u00a315m loan to EDF Energy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Jacob said he expected the business to \u201cperform financially and operationally in the years to come\u201d thanks to the \u201csize and quality of our order book\u201d. At the end of 2024, Dalkia\u2019s forward orders totalled \u00a31.1bn.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In the latest edition of the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/financial\/cn100-2024-turnover-up-profit-down-as-inflation-bites-12-09-2024\/\"> <span>CN100 ranking, Dalkia was the UK\u2019s 26th biggest contractor<\/span><\/a><span>.
