{"id":863117,"date":"2025-07-17T19:12:25","date_gmt":"2025-07-18T00:12:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2025\/07\/17\/galliford-try-and-council-part-ways-on-traffic-calming-scheme\/"},"modified":"2025-07-17T19:12:25","modified_gmt":"2025-07-18T00:12:25","slug":"galliford-try-and-council-part-ways-on-traffic-calming-scheme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsycanuse.com\/index.php\/2025\/07\/17\/galliford-try-and-council-part-ways-on-traffic-calming-scheme\/","title":{"rendered":"Galliford Try and council part ways on traffic calming scheme"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"wrapper_sleeve\">\n<p><img width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.ca.emap.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2021\/03\/Galliford-Try-Partnerships-North_work_close.jpg\"  decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"  alt=\"Galliford-Try-Partnerships-North_work_close.jpg\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>A council and Galliford Try have ended their contractual relationship on a controversial scheme aimed at improving one of the North of England\u2019s most popular tourist towns.<\/p>\n<p>The tier one contractor was working on the design development stage of the Harrogate Station Gateway Project as part of a two-stage contract with North Yorkshire Council.<\/p>\n<p>However, the \u00a312m scheme, intended to improve pedestrian and cycling access to the town\u2019s rail and bus stations, was hit in February by a legal challenge from angry residents and business owners.<\/p>\n<p>Among the objections were claims the scheme will mean less parking and lower footfall in the town.<\/p>\n<p>North Yorkshire Council\u2019s executive member for highways and transportation councillor Malcolm Taylor told <em>Construction News <\/em>that \u201cin light of current legal challenges brought about by objectors to the scheme, it has been decided that the contract (with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.constructionnews.co.uk\/contractors\/galliford-try\/galliford-try-set-to-beat-full-year-revenue-and-profit-forecasts-09-07-2025\/\">Galliford Try<\/a>) will terminate at the end of stage one\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cThis is permitted under the terms of the two-stage contract and aims to avoid additional costs and associated time implications should the works need to be paused for any reason.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Instead, NY Highways, a contractor owned by the council, had been \u201cinvited to submit a delivery plan and costings\u201d, Taylor said.<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cNY Highways has worked on a number of high-profile developments and are currently on site delivering the Skipton Transforming Cities Fund\u00a0project.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Transforming Cities Fund (TCF) is a \u00a32.45bn central government initiative aimed at \u201cdriving up productivity through investments in public and sustainable transport infrastructure\u201d.
