He wore an orange short-sleeved jumpsuit and sat on a blue couch. He is expected to return to court on May 30.<\/p>\n<p>Lo faces eight counts of second-degree murder after allegedly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/world\/canada\/know-deadly-car-ramming-vancouver-street-festival-rcna203275\" target=\"_blank\">driving an SUV through a crowd of people <\/a>at the Filipino community\u2019s Lapu Lapu Day Street festival on Saturday in Vancouver, British Columbia.<\/p>\n<p>Attending Friday\u2019s hearing was Marco Harder, vice consul for the Consulate General of the Philippines.<\/p>\n<p>Lo had previously been scheduled to appear in court on May 26, after making his first appearance by video on Sunday, the day after the attack.<\/p>\n<p>Damienne Darby with the British Columbia Prosecution Service said that Lo\u2019s lawyer had requested the next appearance be moved ahead.<\/p>\n<p>Lo\u2019s court appearance came just hours before a memorial Mass to pray for victims of the tragedy.<\/p>\n<p>The B.C. provincial government had declared Friday a provincial day of mourning for the victims.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, Premier David Eby extended his \u201cdeepest and most heartfelt condolences\u201d to anyone who had lost a loved one. He also wished a speedy recovery for those injured.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo anyone suffering: Your pain is our pain,\u201d the statement said. \u201cYour loss is our loss. We stand with you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Ken Sim also released a statement saying the tragedy has touched people of all backgrounds.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are devastated,\u201d the statement said. \u201cWe are heartbroken.
