Olusegun Olakunle is over the moon after receiving his first-ever call-up to the Super Eagles.<\/p>\n

The Krasnodar FC defender has been invited by Coach Eric Chelle to join the national team for their international friendly against Russia on Friday.<\/p>\n

According to NAN, Coach is looking to assess defensive options, and Olakunle is likely to make his senior debut, earning his first cap.<\/p>\n

The 23-year-old right-back, who has scored twice for Krasnodar this season, said the invitation to join the national team came as a surprise.<\/p>\n

\u201cPlaying for the national team is every player\u2019s dream. I\u2019m happy to be invited and grateful for the opportunity.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a privilege and an honour. It\u2019s not by my strength or skills alone,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He admitted he initially felt it was too soon for a national team appearance but later changed his mind after speaking with others.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome people told me it wasn\u2019t too early. They encouraged me to focus on my job and let everything else follow,\u201d said Olakunle.<\/p>\n

The player also reflected on his journey, describing his rise from the U-17 team as a rewarding experience.<\/p>\n

\u201cI first got invited to the U-17 camp in 2019. I thought it was a joke, but I went and met thousands of other players,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He said the trials were tough and competitive, but he stood out and earned a place in the team that played the African Cup of Nations.<\/p>\n

The team qualified for the U-17 World Cup in Brazil later that year but were eliminated in the Round of 16.<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone dreams of playing at the top level. I first played in Denmark, which gave me exposure to elite football.<\/p>\n
