AmaKhosi Legend Itumeleng Khune Takes Aim at Kaizer Chiefs\u2019 Inconsistent Goalkeeping After Leaky Season<\/strong><\/p>\n

Itumeleng Khune has criticised his former club Kaizer Chiefs\u2019 current goalkeeping department.<\/p>\n

Khune, who parted ways with AmaKhosi at the start of the campaign after two decades of service, reflected on the state of the squad and openly questioned the reliability and leadership of his successors.<\/p>\n

Speaking to iDiski Times<\/a>, he argued that inconsistency between the posts has contributed to the team\u2019s poor showing in the 2024\/25 season.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter me, yes, they need to get a goalkeeper who can give them 30 consecutive league games\u2014someone who can play in all the domestic cup competitions and help win silverware for the club,\u201d Khune said.<\/em><\/p>\n

Kazier Chiefs\u2019 Defensive Woes Continue<\/h2>\n

Kaizer Chiefs have conceded 29 goals in 26 league matches, with only three other teams performing worse defensively. Two of those are currently stuck at the bottom of the log. As a result, Chiefs sit in eighth position with just five games left\u2014risking missing out on a top-eight finish for the second consecutive season.<\/p>\n

In Khune\u2019s absence, the club has rotated Bruce Bvuma, Brandon Petersen, and Fiacre Ntwari\u2014a move the veteran says has led to a lack of rhythm and confidence at the back.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome play two or three games, concede six or seven goals\u2014 that\u2019s not the Kaizer Chiefs standard,\u201d he added.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cNo Leadership, No Consistency\u201d<\/h2>\n

The 37-year-old didn\u2019t hold back, implying that his replacements lack the mental, physical, and emotional fortitude required to succeed at a club of Chiefs\u2019 stature.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou need someone who is physically, mentally, and emotionally strong\u2014someone reliable who can lead from the back and inspire the rest of the team. Unfortunately, I haven\u2019t seen that level of leadership and consistency this season.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Itu Khune, who earned acclaim as a dependable No.1 for both Chiefs and Bafana Bafana, also reflected on the pride he took in representing the club with distinction.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery time I wore the jersey, I understood the responsibility it came with. I gave everything on the field to earn the trust of the supporters\u2026 I never complained about fatigue or circumstances, because I knew those opportunities were rare. You don\u2019t want to retire and be filled with regret.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
